The infant, Joshua Calif Black, was killed, but the unidentified 5-year old survived.<\/p>\n<p>Black was indicted this week on a second-degree murder charge and an attempted murder charge, the Caddo Parish District Attorney James E. Stewart, Sr. announced on Wednesday. She pleaded not guilty to the charges on Thursday, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ksla.com\/2022\/01\/27\/woman-accused-throwing-kids-off-cross-lake-bridge-pleads-not-guilty\/\">KSLA-TV reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shreveport police had received a report of a child\u2019s body floating in the water around 10:52 a.m. in September. The toddler was dead by the time rescue workers recovered him, cops said.<\/p>\n<p>The second child was found alive, floating nearby, cops said. He was taken to Louisiana State University Medical Center. Black\u2019s third child was found safe in a different location.<\/p>\n<p>Black was later nabbed by police over the state border at a rest stop in Waskom, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Sisters of the accused<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ksla.com\/2021\/09\/27\/sisters-ureka-black-say-theyve-suspected-shes-had-mental-health-issues-her-whole-life\/\"> told KSLA<\/a> shortly after the tragedy that they suspected Black had mental health issues for most of her life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time we tried to get her help, she refused,\u201d sister Felicia Black told the station. \u201cShe felt like nothing was wrong with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Her other sister, Pycolyia Black, stressed the alleged mental issues as a factor in the alleged crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are just painting this picture of her being a terrible person, like she\u2019s just a monster, like she just intentionally tried to do this,\u201d Pycolyia told KSLA. \u201cThat\u2019s not the case.
