They enforce rules,\u00a0 remove offenders, and add other moderators.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an important and underappreciated role \u2014 but it\u2019s not one that makes them representative of the sub.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Antiwork_moderation\"><\/span>Antiwork moderation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Mods aren\u2019t leaders, spokespeople, or faces of a movement. Nobody elected Ford to her position; <span class=\"s1\">the sub never voted for her to do interviews. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some mods say a<span class=\"s1\"> more appropriate comparison is to janitors: they keep things running, clean up the mess \u2014 and are typically undervalued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">In the antiwork fiasco, the irony is that an equalizing movement has been tarred by an individual with some power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some argued that Ford exposed the flaws of extremely online people in social movements. But that doesn\u2019t mean they can\u2019t play a useful role.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_sub_goes_under\"><\/span>The sub goes under<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The remaining mods said they<span class=\"s1\"> were aware of the interview request \u2014 and advised Ford to decline it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Some of the sub\u2019s subscribers remain angry that their cause has been discredited by representatives they didn\u2019t choose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of the interview, r\/antiwork promptly went private. It soon reopened with a statement about the debacle:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nWe\u2019re going in the short-term future not accept any media interviews and we will ask the community on feedback regarding whether we will accept an interview or what kind of media outlets are outright banned.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The statement also introduced another moderator:\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">a \u201c21 years old male, long-term unemployed and an Anarchist.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> They said they have no plans to do more interviews \u2014 but have already done a few that are yet to be released.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
