The count then resumed, with Mattarella going on to win 759 votes.<\/p>\n<p>In a brief, televised statement from the Quirinal presidential palace, Mattarella told the nation he couldn\u2019t let his personal desires prevail over a \u201csense of responsibility\u201d during the \u201dgrave health, economic and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> emergency\u201d Italy was enduring in the COVID-19 pandemic. He added his commitment \u201cto interpret the expectations and hopes of our fellow citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mattarella\u2019s first term ends Thursday. But those efforts quickly fizzled.
