Government officials have no role in dictating <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate speech or lecturing us on what we can or can\u2019t say. President Joe Biden, who previously accused Facebook of \u201ckilling people,\u201d this month made a \u201cspecial appeal to social media companies and media outlets: Please deal with the misinformation and disinformation that\u2019s on your shows. It has to stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t. I happen to believe that tech companies should enjoy unencumbered free-association rights and be free to keep or kick off anyone they desire from their products. Self-censorship is as pernicious as any other variety.<\/p>\n<p>Allowing the state to participate in rooting out \u201cmisinformation,\u201d however, sets a dangerous precedent that can be easily abused by those in power, even if we were to concede that Murthy was acting in good faith. As we\u2019ve unfortunately learned during the coronavirus pandemic, health officials will often pass on bad information or politically motivated information.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the definition of \u201cmisinformation\u201d is also conveniently expansive. What was once a conspiracy theory can quickly become a plausible possibility, as we recently learned when evidence emerged that our government may have helped hide and suppress <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> about the Chinese origins of COVID. Even if it isn\u2019t, the state is not the final adjudicator of the veracity of speech. And anyway, we\u2019re free to discuss every harebrained idea we desire.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Health officials and the media have done more to corrode trust in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> and government during the COVID era than any conspiracy theorist on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Americans aren\u2019t sure where to turn, so they often turn to unreliable sources. As with the media, however, the best way for Murthy to fight the spread of undependable information is to rebuild the credibility of his own institution.
