There are times when you may want to manually install a firmware update before it arrives over the air. We\u2019ll show you how to sideload an OTA update on Pixels.<\/p>\n<p>In order to do this, we\u2019ll be using the Android SDK and running some commands\u00a0Command Prompt\u00a0on Windows 10 and 11 and\u00a0Terminal\u00a0on Mac. This is not a terribly difficult process, but if not followed correctly, it can permanently damage your device.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> This process does not wipe your Android device clean. It installs just like any other update. The first thing you\u2019ll need is ADB and \u201cPlatform Tools.\u201d\u00a0Follow the steps in our ADB guide to install the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate files and get it all up and running on your Windows or Mac computer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Install and Use ADB, the Android Debug Bridge Utility<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Next, we need to turn on USB debugging on your handset. This is the actual update that will be applied to your specific Google Pixel. You can find the latest OTA for your Pixel from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/android\/ota#legal\">Google\u2019s website<\/a>. First, connect your Pixel phone to your Windows or Mac computer. Select \u201cAlways Allow From This Computer\u201d and tap \u201cOK.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"admonishment_note\"><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> The \u201cAllow USB Debugging\u201d message might not appear the moment you plug your Pixel into your computer. Replace \u201cupdatefile.zip\u201d with the name of your OTA file. If the OTA file isn\u2019t in the same folder as your ADB files, you can drag it from the File Explorer on Windows or Finder on Mac into the Command Prompt or Terminal.<\/p>\n<p><code>adb sideload updatefile.zip<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-776356\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021-12-27_17-04-12.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Sideload the OTA file.\" width=\"648\" height=\"55\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll see a completion percentage while the file is being pushed to your device.\u00a0When it\u2019s finished, the recovery menu will show up again on your phone, with the \u201cReboot system now\u201d option already highlighted.
