\nEarl Sweatshirt sat down to discuss his new album\u00a0Sick!\u00a0<\/em>with Apple Music\u2019s Zane Lowe on Tuesday (February 1). The lengthy interview covered Earl\u2019s spiritual beliefs and recent journey into fatherhood, but he also spoke fondly about The Alchemist, Madlib and Tyler, The Creator who he said are all producers unlike any other.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe cares bro,\u201d Earl said of Alchemist. \u201cHe cares a lot bro, he cares. And it\u2019s like, whoa, there\u2019s a lot going on \u2026 him and Madlib, bro. It\u2019s like, \u2018Oh this is not just a loop \u2026 you gotta think about the influences. With Al, even with Black, with Madlib, this is like the influences is going back to a certain place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earl explained how his time with Tyler and Odd Future helped him recognize the nuances of quality production.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith OF, our de facto leader Tyler, like behind production and stuff was setting the tone for everything,\u201d Earl said. \u201cThis is a guy from a different school. This is the school. This is Pharrell\u2019s school.\u201d<\/div>\n

The \u201cLye\u201d rapper went on to say it was Tyler, The Creator\u2019s fascination with chords that helped him appreciate good sampling.<\/div>\n

Yo, this n-gga\u2019s flexing on you with a bridge. That\u2019s his favorite. He\u2019s like, \u2018Bro, the bridge, do you hear this bridge?\u2019<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like, It\u2019s different schools. It\u2019s different schools, production schools. Also, a big part of the whole thing with sampling is you\u2019re showing who you are. You\u2019re showing what your influences are. You\u2019re almost showing how you grew up.\u201d<\/div>\n

Earl released\u00a0Sick!\u00a0<\/em>on January 14, which features Bruiser Brigade\u2019s Zelooper and the rap duo Armand Hammer. The 24-minute project also features production from\u00a0Black Noise, Alchemist,\u00a0Samiyam, Ancestors and Alexander Spit, among others.<\/div>\n
