“#Joe Rogan Apologizes For Repeatedly Using The N-Word After Old Videos Resurface

\nJoe Rogan<\/strong> issued an apology after videos of him using a racial slur multiple times on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience<\/em> resurfaced online.<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old host, who is already at the center of the controversy surrounding COVID-19 misinformation on Spotify<\/strong>, came under fire again after artist India Arie<\/strong> shared clips of him saying the N-world on at least 24 occasions when explaining why she was pulling her music from the streaming platform. And now, he has addressed the latest backlash in a video posted to Instagram<\/strong> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Calling the videos the \u201cmost regretful and shameful thing I\u2019ve ever had to talk about publicly,\u201d Rogan insisted the compilation was just \u201cclips taken out of context\u201d from \u201c12 years of conversations\u201d on his show. He continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cI know to most people there is no context where a white person is ever allowed to say that word, never mind publicly on a podcast. And I agree with that now. I haven\u2019t said it in years. But for a long time, when I would bring that word up \u2013 like if it would come up in conversation, instead of saying \u2018the N-word\u2019 I would just say the word. I thought as long as it was in context, people would understand what I was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Fear Factor<\/em> alum went on to elaborate the context of his usage of the offensive word, referencing other comedia<\/a>ns and personalities who used the word in the past, like Red Foxx<\/strong>, Richard Pryor<\/strong>, Lenny Bruce<\/strong>, and Quentin Tarantino<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very unusual word, but it\u2019s not my word to use. I\u2019m well aware of that now, but for years I used it in that manner. I never used it to be racist, because I\u2019m not racist. But whenever you\u2019re in a situation where you have to say, \u2018I\u2019m not racist,\u2019 you f**ked up. And I clearly have f**ked up. And that\u2019s my intention to express myself in this video, to say there\u2019s nothing I can do to take that back. I wish I could; obviously, that\u2019s not possible. I do hope that, if anything, this can be a teachable moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Rogan then acknowledged that he has said \u201ca lot of f**king stupid s**t\u201d on his podcast over the years that was \u201cfine,\u201d however, noted, \u201cbut not when you\u2019re talking about race.\u201d He also addressed another problematic video of him from \u201c11 years ago,\u201d in which he referred to a Black neighborhood in Philadelphia as \u201cPlanet of the Apes\u201d to \u201cmake the story entertaining\u201d at the time. The personality said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not, nor would I ever say, that Black people are apes, but it sure f**ing sounded like that. I immediately afterward said, \u2018That\u2019s a racist thing to say. \u2018Planet of the Apes\u2019 wasn\u2019t even in Africa. I was just sayin\u2019 there\u2019s a lot of Black people there.\u2019 It wasn\u2019t a racist story, but it sounded horrible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hoping his mistakes can be a \u201cteachable moment\u201d for others, Rogan concluded the message by apologizing:<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t go back in time and change what I said, I wish I could but obviously that\u2019s not possible. But I do hope that this can be a teachable moment for anybody who doesn\u2019t realize how offensive that word can be coming out of a white person\u2019s mouth in context or out of context. My sincere and humble apologies. I wish there was more I could say, but all of this is coming from the bottom of my heart. It makes me sick watching that video. But hopefully at least some of you will accept this and understand where I\u2019m coming from.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Spotify has not responded to Rogan\u2019s past use of the racial slur on his podcast at this time \u2014 but they did remove around 70 episodes of his podcast on Friday. You can watch the entire apology video (below):<\/p>\n
