\n Nine-time All-Star catcher Yadier Molina is among the six names the Cardinals announced that have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n

Upon app<\/a>roval from the players, the Cardinals also named shortstop Paul DeJong, first baseman Rangel Rovelo, pitchers Junior Fernandez and Kodi Whitley and infielder Edmundo Sosa as having tested positive for the virus.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood morning, I am saddened to have tested positive for COVID-19, even after following the prevention recommendations,\u201d Molina, a nine-time All-Star wrote, wrote on Instagram. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll do everything in my power to get back ASAP for Cardinals fans, St. Louis City and my teammates. As I recover, I request that you respect my and my families\u2019 privacy during my absence from the team. Blessings!!\u201d<\/p>\n

The team has reported a total of 13 confirmed cases featuring seven players and six other members of the organization that led to a four-game<\/a> series<\/a> in Detroit this week being postponed. They also had a series over the weekend against the Brewers in Milwaukee called off. The Cardinals are currently being quarantined in a Milwaukee hotel as the infected members of the organization are back in St. Louis in Isolation.<\/p>\n

The team recorded no new positive tests on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to MLB Network and former major league infielder Jerry Hairston Jr., multiple Cardinals players made a trip<\/a> to a Minnesota casino that could have contributed to the outbreak.<\/p>\n

Cardinals president John Mozeliak claimed to have no knowledge of the alleged trip, and believes a team member first contracted the coronavirus in St. Louis, where the team played on July 26, before traveling to face the Twins.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no factual reason to believe that is true, and I have not seen any proof of that,\u201d Mozeliak said on Monday. \u201cIf they were at a casino, though, that would be disappointing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cardinals are the third team to have their season postponed for at least a week because of the virus. The Phillies ended their week-long pause with a loss to the Yankees on Monday while the Marlins are set to return to play Tuesday against the Orioles in Baltimore. An outbreak of 21 positive cases within the Marlins led to those two teams halting play. The Phillies also had one staffer and one coach test positive.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
