{"id":403876,"date":"2022-02-04T23:13:36","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T20:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/uk-central-bank-chief-slammed-for-telling-workers-not-to-ask-for-big-raises\/"},"modified":"2022-02-04T23:13:36","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T20:13:36","slug":"uk-central-bank-chief-slammed-for-telling-workers-not-to-ask-for-big-raises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/uk-central-bank-chief-slammed-for-telling-workers-not-to-ask-for-big-raises\/","title":{"rendered":"#UK central bank chief slammed for telling workers not to ask for big raises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#UK central bank chief slammed for telling workers not to ask for big raises<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The highly paid boss of the United Kingdom\u2019s central bank was under fire Friday after he suggested that workers shouldn\u2019t ask for big pay raises as the country fights inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Bank of England chief Andrew Bailey \u2014 who earns \u00a3575,000, the equivalent of $781,500 a year \u2014 faced an im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te backlash after he argued workers should show restraint to help prevent inflation from becoming \u201cingrained\u201d in the economy. <\/p>\n<p>When asked if he meant that workers should not ask for raises despite the rising cost of living, Bailey responded, \u201cBroadly, yes\u201d \u2013 arguing doing so could make the situation worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the sense of saying, we do need to see a moderation of wage rises,\u201d Bailey <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-60206564\">told the BBC<\/a>. \u201cNow that\u2019s painful. I don\u2019t want to, in any sense, sugar that message. Britain needs a pay rise \u2013 not another decade of lost pay and living standards,\u201d TUC head of economics Kate Bell said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, the Bank of England implemented its first back-to-back interest rate hikes since 2004.
