Empath have always dealt in dissonance \u2014 both in the literal, harmonic meaning and in a more abstract, aural sense. Their new single, \u201cElvis Comeback Special,\u201d is built on the jarring juxtaposition of Garrett Koloski\u2019s fast, frenzied drumming and Catherine Elicson\u2019s drifting, languorous vocals. The new track follows \u201cBorn 100 Times,\u201d \u201cDiamond Eyelids,\u201d and \u201cPassing Stranger\u201d as the fourth and final single from <i>Visitor<\/i>, dropping this Friday, February 11, on Fat Possum Records.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            In a written statement, Elicson described the process behind this song, which represents a paradoxically hazy moment of clarity:<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-228938\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left block_quote\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"block_quote_wrapper paragraph_wrapper\">\n  \u201cElvis\u201d started as a discarded voice memo. Sometimes I\u2019ll play little guitar parts and melodies into my phone and then not think anything of them until many months later. When I listen back it\u2019s like listening to someone else\u2019s music and I can hear the song more clearly. So I fleshed out all the parts, and when I brought it to the whole band, all these unexpected rhythms and melodies popped out of the song. The song came to life; that\u2019s the most exciting part of collaborating as a band. <\/p>\n<p>The lyrics took me the longest of any song to complete. The morning of the day I was to sing all my vocals in the studio, I was sitting outside a cafe hyped on caffeine and sweatily typing new words into my notes <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>. The lyrics deal with the feeling of uncertainty in yourself when you\u2019re caught up in someone else\u2019s world and you have to disentangle fantasy and cold reality. Because the song has these sharply rhythmic moments, [Unknown Mortal Orchestra member and <i>Vistor<\/i>\u2019s producer] Jake [Portrait] suggested I sing the lyrics really lazily as a contrast. The effect, though subtle, added a more compelling vibe to the whole song.\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-228939\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            \u201cElvis Comeback Special\u201d arrives with a music video directed by Halle Ballard, a long-time collaborator and friend of the band who also handled visuals for <i>Visitor<\/i>\u2019s other three singles.
