\n Conor McGregor is calling it quits again. Now, who\u2019d like to set the over\/under on the date of his return bout?<\/p>\n

For the third time in four years, McGregor, 31, announced his retirement over the weekend, citing his frustration with UFC scheduling and boredom with the sport. McGregor most recently scored a first round TKO of Donald Cerrone in January \u2014 his first fight in 15 months and second overall since 2016 \u2014 and claimed he wanted to fight at least three times this year, following his lengthy absence from the octagon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe game<\/a> just does not excite me, and that\u2019s that,\u201d McGregor told ESPN. \u201cAll this waiting around. There\u2019s nothing happ<\/a>ening. I\u2019m going through opponent options, and there\u2019s nothing really there at the minute. There\u2019s nothing that\u2019s exciting me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had my goals, my plans, the season. I had everything laid out. Obviously the world has gone bleeding bonkers at the minute. There\u2019s f\u2013k all happening at the minute\u2026.They want to throw me up and down weights and offer me stupid fights. I don\u2019t really give a f\u2013k. I\u2019m over it.\u201d<\/p>\n

McGregor was supposed to fight for the lightweight championship against title-holder Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson, but the timeline became uncertain when COVID-19 forced Nurmagomedov to miss his bout with Feguson, who lost to replacement Justin Gaethje.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should have just kept the ball rolling. I mean, why are they pushing (Nurmagomedov-Gaethje) back to September? You know what\u2019s going to happen in September, something else is going to happen in September, and that\u2019s not going to happen,\u201d McGregor said. \u201cI laid out a plan and a method that was the right move, the right methods to go with. And they always want to balk at that and not make it happen or just drag it on. Whatever I say, they want to go against it to show some kind of power.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should have just done the fight \u2013 me and Justin for the interim title \u2013 and just kept the ball rolling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gaethje was one of many scoffing at McGregor\u2019s latest retirement announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThankfully all of the elderly are still hiding in their homes,\u201d Gaethje tweeted, referencing McGregor hitting an older man in a bar last year. \u201cThis guy is on another bender.\u201d<\/p>\n

Floyd Mayweather, who faced McGregor in one of the highest-grossing boxing matches of all-time in 2017, insulted the Irishman, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m not mistaken, didn\u2019t you tell Mike Tyson you could beat me if we fought a second time?\u201d Mayweather wrote under a McGregor Instagram post. \u201cNow you\u2019re quitting! I thought you wanted to beat the best? Well, if you decide to come back, I will be waiting to punish you again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite potentially losing one of the biggest names ever in the business, UFC President Dana White said he doesn\u2019t plan to try and dissuade McGregor from his decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf that\u2019s what Conor\u2019s feeling right now \u2026 on a certain level, I understand it,\u201d White said. \u201cNobody is pressuring anybody to fight. And if Conor McGregor feels he wants to retire, you know my feelings about retirement \u2014 you should absolutely do it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I love Conor. There\u2019s a handful of people that have made this really fun for me and he\u2019s one of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like I\u2019m going, \u2018Holy s\u2013t, this is crazy, this is nuts.\u2019 Nothing is crazy and nuts right now, because everything is crazy and nuts right now, on a certain level. I totally understand it and get it.\u201d<\/p>\n

McGregor (22-4), the first-ever UFC fighter to simultaneously hold titles in two weight classes, previously announced his retirement in April 2016 and March 2019.<\/p>\n

But McGregor\u2019s coach, John Kavanagh, is already setting the stage for the seemingly inevitable comeback.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt age 31 Jordan abruptly retired from basketball before the 1993\u201394 NBA season, he returned to the Bulls in March 1995 and led them to three additional championships in 1996, 1997, and 1998, as well as a then-record 72 regular-season wins in the 1995\u201396 NBA season,\u201d he tweeted on Sunday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
