Thirty-seven-year-old Maria Avgitidis (a\u2009k\u2009a @realmatchmakermaria) is a fourth-generation, New York-based Greek-American relationship guru who has established herself as the queen of\u00a0dating-profile critiques on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tiktok.com\/@realmatchmakermaria\">TikTok<\/a>, where she has more than 55,000 followers. To date, 4,000 singles have sent their profiles to Avgitidis\u2019 company, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.agapematch.com\/\">Agape Match<\/a>, for help, and she currently has a waiting list of around 200 people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re seeking ways to optimize their profile for the person they\u2019re hoping to attract,\u201d said Avgitidis of her clients, who pay as much as $200 for her profile guidance. \u201cI also point out things that help repel people you\u2019re just not interested in meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shara Seigel, a 36-year-old Upper East Sider, recently turned to Avgitidis for help with her Hinge profile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just feel like I\u2019m meeting quantity over quality,\u201d the public relations professional said of her dates. \u201cI\u2019m finding it challenging to meet people who are in the same place in life as me. So, it\u2019s crucial to make your first image a very good one with broad appeal.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lighten up:<\/strong> \u201cDark selfies are a turnoff,\u201d Avgitidis said. She im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely suggested that Seigel change her first photo, a somewhat dim selfie at an outdoor restaurant, to something with better lighting.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lose the booze:<\/strong> Avgitidis also nixed Seigel\u2019s original photo because she was holding a glass of wine. Avoid leading with alcohol, as some might find it alienating. \u201cIt\u2019s a personal decision, and I wouldn\u2019t use it as an opener,\u201d the matchmaker said.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Go for the bright stuff: <\/strong>Avgitidis suggested Seigel use a picture of herself in a vibrant floral dress to attract men online. Colorful backdrops are also a great way to make your profile more appealing. \u201cIf you see a bright mural or poster, stand in front of it,\u201d Avgitidis said. \u201cAsk someone to take a photo of you. This way it doesn\u2019t look staged, and it looks like \u2018Hey, you were walking with a friend in the West Village \u2014 cool!\u2019 \u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be straight about your photos: <\/strong>\u201cIf you have a hiking photo, include it \u2014 but only if you actually enjoy hiking,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd don\u2019t include photos that were taken 15 pounds (or 15 years ago). If you\u2019re lying about your looks, it\u2019s easy for someone to wonder what else you\u2019re lying about.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid clich\u00e9s:<\/strong> Apps like Hinge feature prompts for users to sell themselves, but specificity is key. For example, in Seigel\u2019s \u201cTogether we could . . .\u201d prompt, she wrote \u201cTry the best pizza,\u201d but Avgitidis deemed that to be super boring. \u201cIf you check out women\u2019s profiles, one in five say this exact same thing,\u201d she said.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use prompts to paint a picture<\/strong>: \u201cFor example, to describe how you spend your Sundays, weave in your interests and hobbies in bullet points,\u201d Avgitidis said. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to write full sentences. It could be \u2018Long walk, yoga, brunch with friends, Wordle.\u2019 \u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use prompts to start a conversation: <\/strong>On her original profile, Seigel wrote, \u201cThis year I want to . . . see more live stand-up comedy and Broadway shows.
