Holed up in a hotel room, the Compton r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er\u2019s emotions spill over into suicidal thoughts as the \u201csavior of Hip Hop\u201d wrestles with survivor\u2019s remorse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone heard it, multiple shots, corners cryin\u2019 out\/You was deserted, where was your antennas again?\/Where was your presence, where was your support that you pretend?\u201d he asks himself in a drunken, guilt-ridden yelp before telling the man in the mirror \u201cshoulda killed yo ass a long time ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kendrick Lamar - God Is Gangsta\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4wZytWFm7x0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the latest episode of Spotify\u2019s <em>The Big Hit Show<\/em> podcast, some of Kendrick Lamar\u2019s closest collaborators shed light on the making of \u201cu,\u201d revealing the real-life suffering that bled over into the booth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat time he actually went in the booth, turned out all the lights and you just knew something was different,\u201d said Sounwave, who co-produced the song with Taz Arnold and Whoarei. \u201cGoing back to that, like, I\u2019m about to tear up. That was deep. I\u2019ve never seen him like that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen him experiment on trying to get different things out, but to actually pull <em>that<\/em> emotion out, in my head I felt him bombarding himself for every heart thought that\u2019s hitting him at that moment just to get that feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TDE President Terrence \u201cPunch\u201d Henderson Jr. added, \u201c[He] cut all the lights out and just really went in\u2026 got all of those emotions out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/episode\/5QX81LIqjZhNXpeYFv8Sct?utm_source=generator\" width=\"100%\" height=\"232\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kendrick Lamar\u2018s longtime manager and pgLang co-founder Dave Free delved into the pain and grief that the TDE MC was dealing with while recording <em>To Pimp a Butterfly<\/em>. K. Dot lost numerous close friends after the success of 2012\u2019s <em>good kid, m.A.A.d city<\/em>, but the death of 23-year-old Chad Keaton hit him especially hard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChad was a really hard one for Kendrick \u2019cause Chad was younger than us, like a lil\u2019 bro,\u201d Free said. \u201cI\u2019ll never forget, he FaceTimed me [while we were on tour] and we was on the bus talking to him, and we were telling him, \u2018Bro, we about to come back and see you. We gonna try and cut this run short and get back to you.\u2019 And we didn\u2019t get back to see him before he passed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keaton died in August 2013. He was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Compton that July \u2014 after which Kendrick stayed in touch with him \u2014 but succumbed to his injuries while in hospital 31 days later.<\/p>\n<p>Making his death all the more painful was the fact that Chad\u2019s older brother, Jason, had asked Kendrick to look out for his sibling while he was in prison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJason asked of him like, \u2018Yo, just look out for lil\u2019 bro, man,&#8217;\u201d Dave Free recalled. \u201cThat was a responsibility, so when [Chad died] it kinda felt like he let him down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThat survivor\u2019s remorse is real, man, \u2019cause you feel that shit. You hearing the bad <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> as you <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ling and the first thing you gotta think about is like, \u2018Ok, for this scenario to happen, it\u2019s gonna be a reaction.\u2019 So now you gotta use your superpower to calm people down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was really hard for [Kendrick] because it\u2019s like, how you calm somebody down when you feel the same way? You feel like <em>you<\/em> wanna go get some revenge? Seeing him battle with that on the road was hard \u2026 No matter how much you say it in the rap, you still gotta feel, you still gotta live with it. And you know when it creeps up on you? When you get bored.
