(Think: 9\/11, Dec. 7, 1941, Black Thursday, the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, JFK.) And, OK, it <em>was <\/em>ugly. But at bottom, the Capitol riot amounted to a few hundred nutcases trespassing in a demented bid to stop Joe Biden from becoming president. A podcaster\u2019s use of the n-word several years ago doesn\u2019t even come close to <em>that<\/em>. No wonder CNN later changed the story\u2019s headline (though it left up the rest of its \u201canalysis\u201d).<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"This_claim\"><\/span>This claim: <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe last 22 years now rank as the driest . . .\u00a0 period [in southwestern North America] since at least 800 AD, with human emissions of greenhouse gases accounting for about 42% of the drought\u2019s severity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014 Axios, Feb. 14<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>We say: <\/strong>There\u2019s just no end to climate alarmism. Yes, greenhouse gases are suspected as a key cause of rising global temps, which may fuel droughts. But Axios\u2019 story <em>\u2014<\/em> and the study in Nature Climate Change it\u2019s based on <em>\u2014 <\/em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/southwest-megadrought-driest-1200-years-593112d3-d3d9-475a-b829-7136a3133191.html\">focus on only<\/a> one part of the Earth, theorize about just 1,200 years of climate history (for a planet that\u2019s <em>4.5 billion<\/em> years old) and depend on computer models to blame 42% of the \u201cdrought\u2019s severity\u201d on man-made causes. They have no real \u201ccontrol,\u201d i.e., no \u201cduplicate Earth\u201d that lacks greenhouse gases to use for comparison. So how in the world can anyone be sure of the extent of those gases\u2019 impact on rainfall? \u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"This_statement-2\"><\/span>This statement: <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe child-tax credit just ran out on Dec. 31, and now people are stealing baby formula.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in The New Yorker, Feb. 14<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/20220213-aoc-shitshow-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Rep. As The Post reported, baby-formula theft became a nationwide scourge <em>years ago<\/em>, long before the child-tax credit was expanded during the pandemic. And the rise in crime goes well beyond baby-formula theft: Murders in the city last year were up 53% over 2019.
