Winter Storm Miles is projected to hit the Northeast this weekend. <\/p>\n

New York is expected to get slammed with rain, strong winds and more power outages as the storm makes its way toward Maine.<\/p>\n

As of Friday morning, nearly 100,000 customers<\/a> in the Northeast have no power.<\/p>\n

Long Island is under heavy wind watch on Friday, according to Accuweather<\/a>. New York City and New Jersey could see heavy rain impact the area. Western New York faces the possibility of freezing rain.<\/p>\n

The winds forced some of New York\u2019s bridges to limit their access. The Verrazzano Bridge\u2019s upper level was closed during the morning commute Friday morning, according to the NYC Emergency Notification system<\/a>. <\/p>\n

A possible tornado passed through central Alabama on Thursday night as a severe storm toppled trees and left thousands of people without power.<\/p>\n

The twister was reported in the Birmingham suburb of Leeds, where a tree fell onto a mobile home while a couple was inside, according to news<\/a> outlets.<\/p>\n

Resident Chris McClendon said he arrived home to find the tree on his neighbors\u2019 mobile home.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got out of the truck and I could hear the woman screaming for help,\u201d McClendon told\u00a0WBRC-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McClendon said he was able to help get the woman out, with the assistance of her husband.<\/p>\n

Leeds Mayor David Miller said there were reports of damage in the area, but no serious injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

The Birmingham-area National Weather Service office said it would be sending crews out Friday to survey the damage.<\/p>\n

Nearly 6,000 customers remained without power in Alabama as Friday morning, according to poweroutage.us<\/a>.\n <\/div>\n
