Instead, he said they should leave, the <em>Globe<\/em>\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-trudeau-urges-ottawa-convoy-protesters-to-go-home\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">reports<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cIndividuals are trying to blockade our economy, our democracy and our fellow citizens\u2019 daily lives. It has to stop. The people of Ottawa <strong>don\u2019t deserve to be harassed<\/strong> in their own neighbourhoods. They don\u2019t deserve to be confronted with the inherent violence of a swastika flying on a street corner, or a confederate flag, or the insults and jeers just because they\u2019re wearing a mask.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candice Bergen<\/strong>, who has met with the convoy protesters, unlike Trudeau, said Trudeau is making things worse:\u00a0\u201cDoes he regret <strong>calling people names<\/strong> who didn\u2019t take the vaccine? Does he regret calling people misogynist and racist and just escalating and poking sticks at them and being so divisive to individual Canadians?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the<em> Globe<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-interim-conservative-leader-candice-bergen-advocated-against-asking\/\">reported<\/a> that Bergen argued within her party that Tories should not ask the protesters to leave. The party <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-divide-grows-among-conservative-mps-over-convoy-protests-in-ottawa\/\">is divided<\/a> on the issue, with some, like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MichaelChongMP\/status\/1490869619304898561\">Michael Chong on Monday night<\/a>, calling for the protesters to leave\u2014while others, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fortsaskatchewanrecord.com\/news\/mp-genuis-supports-freedom-convoy\">like Garnet Genuis<\/a>, stand foursquare behind the horn honkers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bridge shut:<\/strong> Protesters did not pay heed to Trudeau\u2019s speech, and <strong>shut down the Ambassador Bridge<\/strong> connecting Detroit and Windsor on Monday night, CBC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/windsor\/ambassador-bridge-protest-1.6342837?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quieter:<\/strong> The horns of Ottawa\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Gray_Mackenzie\/status\/1490874497632772097?s=20&amp;t=FH5LQZpKnOnO3MmgGMMKSA\">fell silent<\/a> on Monday after lawyers\u00a0<strong>Paul Champ<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Emilie Taman<\/strong> won an injunction, the <em>Citizen<\/em>\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ottawacitizen.com\/news\/local-news\/judge-orders-truckers-horns-silenced\">reports<\/a>. They brought the action on behalf of a young woman who lives downtown, arguing that the honking was harmful and unnecessary, which convinced\u00a0<strong>Justice Hugh McLean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cTooting a horn is <strong>not an expression of any great thought<\/strong>,\u201d McLean noted wryly, even allowing for the \u201cpotential artistic merit\u201d of the truckers\u2019 creative use of patterns and beats.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Most oppose:<\/strong> The silencing of the horns should please Ottawa residents, the majority of whom, unsurprisingly, oppose the protest, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ottawa.ctvnews.ca\/majority-of-ottawa-residents-oppose-freedom-convoy-protest-poll-finds-1.5771778\">an Abacus poll<\/a> for CTV.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>According to the poll, 47 per cent of residents strongly oppose the protest, and 20 per cent oppose it. In contrast, 10 per cent of respondents said they support the convoy and 12 per cent strongly support it. Eleven per cent said they did not have a clear view.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Cops sought:<\/strong> Ottawa is still seeking 1,800 more troops to improve security in the suddenly quieter city, Global <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8600507\/ottawa-police-freedom-convoy-on-offensive\/\">reports<\/a>. The feds <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-federal-government-urges-ottawa-police-to-take-control-of-convoy\/\">had a newser<\/a> Monday to push for better security co-operation. Police said they were stopping refuelling, but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stphnmaher\/status\/1490737919597989894\">it appeared to be continuing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economical with the truth:<\/strong>\u00a0Ottawa Police disputed the number of OPP helping the city, CTV <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/toronto.ctvnews.ca\/ottawa-police-dispute-ford-government-claim-that-1-500-police-officers-were-deployed-to-help-1.5771015\">reports<\/a>. Solicitor <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a><strong> Sylvia Jones<\/strong> issued a statement on Sunday claiming the province had sent \u201cmore than\u201d 1,500 officers from the OPP and other forces to help Ottawa police. But Ottawa police said Monday the service received <strong>just 100 OPP officers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fire:<\/strong> Police <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawapolice.ca\/Modules\/News\/index.aspx?newsId=46eea503-f886-4e7a-9188-edbecabca0a6&amp;lang=en\">are investigating<\/a>\u00a0<strong>a reported arson<\/strong> in an apartment building, Global <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalnewswatch.com\/2022\/02\/07\/police-arson-unit-probes-ottawa-fire-allegation-in-heat-of-anti-mandate-protest-2\/#.YgHk0PXMLyt\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dangerous mail:<\/strong>\u00a0Nova Scotia CPC MPs received envelopes containing disturbing images and what <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared to be a dangerous chemical, CP <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/2022\/02\/07\/envelope-with-disturbing-images-and-suspected-chemical-irritant-sent-to-ns-mps.html\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charest courted:<\/strong> CPC Quebec MP <strong>Alain Rayes<\/strong> told Radio-Canada Monday that he has spoken to former premier (and federal PC leader) <strong>Jean Charest<\/strong> about running for the CPC leadership, CBC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/montreal\/conservatives-eye-charest-as-potential-leader-again-1.6342373\">reports<\/a>: \u201c<strong>He\u2019s a political machine<\/strong>, an exceptional speaker who knows Quebec and who, in my eyes, would be a formidable opponent for Justin Trudeau.\u201d Charest had no comment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interested:<\/strong> <em>National Post<\/em> columnist\u00a0<strong>Tasha Kheiriddin<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TashaKheiriddin\/status\/1490810182921854982?s=20&amp;t=oPiEamFXLV9n--L2POO_aQ\">announced on Twitter<\/a>\u00a0that she is considering running.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carney writes:<\/strong> Speaking of leadership and columns, former central banker and potential Liberal leader <strong>Mark Carney<\/strong> had <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/opinion\/article-mark-carney-end-freedom-convoy-ottawa-state-of-emergency\/\">a cogent, strongly worded column<\/a> in the <em>Globe<\/em> on Monday, calling for firm leadership to end the crisis in Ottawa.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But by now anyone sending money to the convoy should be in no doubt: <strong>You are funding sedition<\/strong>. Foreign funders of an insurrection interfered in our domestic affairs from the start. Canadian authorities should take every step within the law to identify and thoroughly punish them. The involvement of foreign governments and any officials connected to them should be identified, exposed and addressed. I know from experience that crises don\u2019t end by themselves. You can\u2019t spin your way out of failure. You must recognize the scale of the challenge, devise a clear plan and then implement it methodically and deliberately.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Poloz speaks:<\/strong> Former Bank of Canada governor <strong>Stephen Poloz<\/strong> has a surprisingly interesting interview with <em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em> <strong>Marie-Danielle Smith<\/strong>, discussing Star Trek, his new book and what is likely to happen with inflation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Could it still be picking up? Yes, I\u2019d say that\u2019s a risk. But people aren\u2019t doing a very careful job of understanding what prices have done. Supply chain issues will also get worked out\u2014there\u2019s too much money at stake for companies to not figure those things out. And the big counterargument, which I want to remind people of, is that the fourth industrial revolution [driven by artificial intelligence and biotech] will cause a lot of prices to fall.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>View from Ottawa:<\/strong> Matt Gurney has<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/theline.substack.com\/p\/dispatch-from-the-ottawa-front-hot\"> a readable feature<\/a>\u00a0in the Line on a day among the deplorables in Ottawa, where he found many friendly if vaccine-obsessed protesters, and also mentally ill people and hard men. He found the noise unpleasant:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I still roll my eyes a bit at some of the more overheated descriptors of the honking \u2014 no, it\u2019s not like being in a warzone, because in wars, the loud noises also include things like fire and shrapnel \u2014 I appreciate better how aggravating it would be for having now been up close myself. I was told repeatedly that Monday has thus far been a quiet day, relatively speaking. Still, after only a few hours of a relatively quiet day, <strong>I\u2019ve had quite enough of truck horns<\/strong>. After 11 days, I might be prone to hyperbole, too.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Falcon in:<\/strong> New B.C.
