TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> over the years.<\/p>\n<p>Even staple figures in the field of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> such as Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have been vocal about technology\u2019s threat against humanity.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Musk told the New York Times that AI would grow vastly smarter than humans and would overtake the human race by 2025, adding that things would get \u201cunstable or weird.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Musk\u2019s prediction, most experts in the field say humanity has nothing to worry about when it comes to AI \u2013 at least, not yet.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"most-ai-is-narrow\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Most_AI_is_%E2%80%9Cnarrow%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Most AI is \u201cnarrow\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The fear of AI taking over has developed from the idea that machines will somehow gain consciousness and turn on their creators.<\/p>\n<p>In order for AI to achieve this, it would not only need to possess human-like intelligence, but it would also need to be able to predict the future or plan ahead.<\/p>\n<p>As it stands, AI is not capable of doing either.<\/p>\n<p>When prompted with the question \u201cIs AI an existential threat to humanity,\u201d Matthew O\u2019Brien, a robotics engineer from the Georgia Institute of Technology\u00a0wrote on\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/metafact.io\/factchecks\/123-is-ai-an-existential-threat-to-humanity\">Metafact<\/a>: \u201cThe long-sought goal of a \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> AI\u2019 is not on the horizon. We simply do not know how to make a general adaptable intelligence, and it\u2019s unclear how much more progress is needed to get to that point\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The facts of the matter are that machines generally operate how they\u2019re programmed to and we are a long way from developing the ASI (artificial superintelligence) needed for this \u201ctakeover\u201d to even be feasible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At present, most of the AI technology utilized by machines is considered \u201cnarrow\u201d or \u201cweak,\u201d meaning it can only <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly its knowledge towards one or a few tasks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMachine learning and AI systems are a long way from cracking the hard problem of consciousness and being able to generate their own goals contrary to their programming,\u201d George Montanez, a data scientist at Microsoft, wrote under the same Metafact thread.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/artificial-intelligence-200421-iStock-1299497622.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Robot humanoid uses laptop.\" class=\"wp-image-21275826\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/artificial-intelligence-200421-iStock-1299497622.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/artificial-intelligence-200421-iStock-1299497622.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/artificial-intelligence-200421-iStock-1299497622.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Current AI technology is not capable of human-like intelligence or planning ahead.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images\/iStockphoto<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"ai-could-help-us-to-better-understand-ourselves\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"AI_could_help_us_to_better_understand_ourselves\"><\/span>AI could help us to better understand ourselves<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some experts even go as far as to say that not only is AI not a threat to mankind, but could help us to better understand ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to AI and robotics today we are in the position to \u2018simulate\u2019 in robots and colonies of robots the theories related with consciousness, emotions, intelligence, ethics and compare them on a scientific base,\u201d said Antonio Chella, a professor in Robotics at the University of Palermo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, we can use AI and robotics to understand ourselves better.
