You can use the \u201cSet Up an Alternative Appearance\u201d button to add an additional scan to your iPhone (useful if you\u2019re frequently sporting the same look) or tap \u201cReset Face ID\u201d to remove all Face ID data and start again.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re done you\u2019ll need to tap \u201cSet Up Face ID\u201d and follow the on-screen prompts to re-scan your appearance.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Test_Whether_Your_Front-Facing_Camera_Is_Faulty\"><\/span>Test Whether Your Front-Facing Camera Is Faulty<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If the dot projector on the front of your iPhone isn\u2019t working correctly, Face ID won\u2019t work. Damage could be caused by simply dropping your phone on a hard surface since heavy impacts are often enough to damage or dislodge components inside the chassis.<\/p>\n<p>One quick way of testing this is to open the Camera app, choose <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/309253\/how-to-use-the-iphone-plus-portrait-mode\/\">Portrait mode, and switch to the front-facing camera. If the usual Portrait mode effect of blurring the background isn\u2019t working, this could suggest that your dot projector is faulty. Apple will check your iPhone over and perform diagnostics in a bid to isolate the problem. They may offer you a free fix, but even if the fix isn\u2019t free, you\u2019ll need to approve any work beforehand (so there\u2019s no risk of being charged if you\u2019d rather go elsewhere).<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>If Face ID isn\u2019t working well and you own an Apple Watch, you can use the Apple Watch to unlock your iPhone.
