From endlessly searching for a spot during peak traffic times, to performing surgeon-esque maneuvers in order to fit into a tight space, it\u2019s always a nightmare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My dream is a world where my car will drop me off, park itself, and then pick me up whenever I want.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCome down to Earth, Ioanna<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d you might say, \u201cit\u2019ll never h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But you\u2019d be wrong. Because my dream is coming true as we speak.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> is known as automated valet parking (AVP) \u2014 and it doesn\u2019t even need full self-driving functionality. A modern vehicle equipped with electric power steering, electronic shifting, and connectivity capabilities is good enough.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve investigated the companies deploying AVP and where they are with the technology. Let\u2019s dive right in.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"CARIAD\"><\/span>CARIAD<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cariad.technology\/\">CARIAD<\/a>, the Volkswagen Group\u2019s automotive software subsidiary, presented <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.audi.com\/en\/innovation\/autonomous-driving\/automated-valet-parking.html\">its automated valet parking system<\/a> at last year\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iaa.de\/en\/mobility\">IAA Mobility<\/a> event in Munich.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Part of the show\u2019s parking garage was transformed to demonstrate how CARIAD\u2019s AVP uses physical infrastructure to enable autonomous car parking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The parking garage and the vehicle are interconnected via a standardized communications interface. A kit is installed in the car. Then, thanks to the sensors, cameras, and radars installed all over the designated area, the garage itself monitors vehicle movement, feeding it information throughout.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" srcdoc=\"&lt;style&gt;*{padding:0;margin:0;overflow:hidden}html,body{background:#000;height:100%}img{position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;object-fit:cover;transition:opacity .1s cubic-bezier(0.4,0,1,1)}a:hover img+img{opacity:1!important}&lt;\/style&gt;&lt;a href=\" https:=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/ZHvRHq3Uhcc\/hqdefault.jpg\" style=\"top: 50%;left:50%;width:68px;height:48px;transform:translate3d(-50%,-50%,0)\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For drivers, the process looks seamless. First off, they reserve a parking spot through the AVP app. Once they arrive at the garage, they stop at a designated parking zone, where they leave their car. Through the app, they can initiate the parking process, and the car takes care of all the rest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The drivers stay connected to their car through the app. They can notify it when they need to be picked up again from the transfer zone, or they can ask for a charging or washing service within the parking garage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And yes, the car will also do that independently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"STEER\"><\/span>STEER<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea behind <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/steer-tech.com\/\">STEER<\/a> is very similar to CARIAD\u2019s. It offers an automated valet parking kit that can be installed in your car.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your vehicle can park itself using Level 4 autonomous parking capabilities \u2014 but only at designated STEER garages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how it works:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can already pre-order the kit, and upon submitting your interest the company will notify you if your vehicle is compatible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BOSCH\"><\/span>BOSCH<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, and parking garage operator APCOA have teamed up to create <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bosch.com\/stories\/autonomous-parking-in-parking-garages\/\">their own AVP<\/a>, which they are already testing in Stuttgart Airport\u2019s P6 car lot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cUsers can reserve a parking space via an app and register their license plate number and preferred payment option,\u201d explains Simon Laubenberger, the project\u2019s head at Bosch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A camera scans the license plate and raises the barrier gate automatically when the user approaches the entrance. S-Class that\u2019s being used as a test vehicle isn\u2019t an AV, but its park assist system features a special add-on module with a Wi-Fi interface.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This enables the car to communicate with \u2014 and receive driving commands from \u2014 the parking garage\u2019s automated valet parking server.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specifically, 180 cameras installed on the ceiling send images and metadata to the designated server, which, in turn, uses a digital map to guide the S-Class through the short term: no more waiting lines within car lots, no more scratches, and no more being boxed into a tiny space between two vehicles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And most
