Bob Beckel, the longtime Democratic operative whose app<\/a>earances on Fox News Channel included a stint as host of \u201cThe Five,\u201d has died. He was 73 years old.<\/p>\n

FNC star Sean Hannity announced Beckel\u2019s death during his nightly primetime show on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe miss him already,\u201d Hannity said of his former FNC colleague, whom he called a \u201cdear friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beckel was campaign manager during Democratic Party nominee Walter Mondale\u2019s ill-fated run for the presidency in 1984.<\/p>\n

He also served in the State Department during the Carter administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat people might not know is he and I got along great,\u201d Hannity said during his tribute to Beckel on Monday. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a key to my house, he was always full of joy, happiness, light, sunshine. He loved God and Jesus and we miss him already.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGod bless you, Godspeed, Bob Beckel.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another FNC primetime star, Laura Ingraham, remembered Beckel as an \u201coldtime liberal\u201d with whom \u201cyou could always have a laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s really sad news,\u201d Ingraham said to Hannity as she began her show on Monday night. <\/p>\n

\u201cI liked him so much too. I\u2019m just in shock, I\u2019m just learning this from you.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a stint in politics, Beckel was hired by Fox News in 2000 to provide commentary on the news of the day.<\/p>\n

In 2015, he left the network to join rival CNN before eventually returning to host \u201cThe Five.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beckel also made appearances on the NBC Nightly News, CBS This Morning, and Nightline.<\/p>\n

In 2007, he co-authored a book called \u201cCommon Ground: How to Stop the Partisan War That Is Destroying America.\u201d<\/p>\n

The co-author, Cal Thomas, paid tribute to Beckel on Monday, calling him \u201cmy friend and spiritual brother.\u201d<\/p>\n
