rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of columns spotlighting all the offerings hitting the big streaming services each month. This time we\u2019re checking out the new Netflix arrivals for March 2022. They include Pieces of Her, three Stephen King adaptations, and more!<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Netflix_Pick_of_the_Month_for_March_2022\"><\/span>Netflix Pick of the Month for March 2022<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-370471\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pieces-of-her.jpg\" alt=\"Pieces Of Her\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pieces-of-her.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pieces-of-her-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>I for one am all in on streamers finally circling back around to adapting existing novels into limited series instead of relying solely on \u201coriginal\u201d content. Amazon Prime has <em>Bosch<\/em> and <em>Reacher<\/em>, Netflix has been producing Harlan Coben adaptations overseas, and now the biggest streamer has joined the Karin Slaughter fan club with <strong><em>Pieces of Her<\/em><\/strong> (premieres March 4th). The eight-episode series is the story of a young woman whose brush with violence reveals a world of secrets hiding behind her mother\u2019s otherwise normal exterior. On the run and with more questions than answers, she sets out to find the truth. Toni Collette plays the mom, and fellow Aussie Bella Heathcote plays her daughter, and right there are two very good reasons to watch. Even better, while I\u2019m only a couple of episodes in so far it\u2019s already a thrilling, well-acted ride. Here\u2019s hoping the trend continues and we start getting some limited series adaptations of Dean Koontz novels like <em>Lightning<\/em>, <em>The Bad Place<\/em>, <em>The Husband<\/em>, etc\u2026<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"New_Netflix_FilmsSeries\"><\/span>New Netflix Films\/Series!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-370472\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/the-adam-project.jpg\" alt=\"The Adam Project\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/the-adam-project.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/the-adam-project-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has always been an interesting actor, but his best work has seemingly come post-<em><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a> of Thrones<\/em> as he begins stretching new muscles. Seek out the recent <em>A Taste of Hunger<\/em> (2021) for a sampling of his acting chops, and then chase it with <strong><em>Against the Ice<\/em><\/strong> (premieres March 2nd). The roles couldn\u2019t be more different, but this latter film is a standout as both a passion project \u2014 he co-wrote the screenplay \u2014 and a dramatic thriller about survival against incredible odds. It\u2019s based on a true story too.<\/p>\n<p>From deadly seriousness to lightweight genre shenanigans, our next pick is <strong><em>The Adam Project<\/em><\/strong> (premieres March 11th). It\u2019s the latest team-up between director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds, and while it looks less purely commercial it\u2019s most likely another easy to swallow, unchallenging piece of entertainment. Reynolds plays a time-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ing pilot who crash lands and must rely on the help of his own pre-teen self to save the future. Expect flash and cheese throughout, but that\u2019s not always a bad thing.<\/p>\n<p>Noomi Rapace has been on something of a tear in recent years keeping busy and focusing quite a bit on genre projects. <em>What H<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened to Monday<\/em> (2017, <em>Close<\/em> (2019), <em>Lamb<\/em> (2021) \u2014 they may not all be winners, but they\u2019re rarely uninteresting choices. Her latest is <strong><em>Black Crab<\/em><\/strong> (premieres March 18th), a sci-fi\/action film about a small squad of soldiers on an important mission in a post-apocalyptic world. It\u2019s director Adam Berg\u2019s feature debut, but the premise has enough promise so we\u2019ll see what he and Rapace can conjure here.<\/p>\n<p>It might seem off-brand for me, but I\u2019m actually a fan of <em>Bridgerton<\/em>\u2018s first season. Will that love continue for <strong><em>Bridgerton: Season 2<\/em><\/strong> (premieres March 25th)? Can\u2019t say for sure yet as I\u2019m only a few episodes into the new season, but so far it feels as if the sass and drama have been ramped up while the sauciness has been toned down. That\u2019s not a criticism, just an observation, and the show\u2019s real strength continues with some engaging characters (Team Eloise!) and commentary on the patriarchal times.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_KingDarabont_Double_Feature\"><\/span>A King\/Darabont Double Feature!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-370473\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/the-shawshank-redemption.jpg\" alt=\"The Shawshank Redemption\" width=\"800\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/the-shawshank-redemption.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/the-shawshank-redemption-768x504.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Frank Darabont hasn\u2019t directed a feature film since <em>The Mist<\/em> (2007), and it\u2019s a damn shame as the man \u201cgets\u201d Stephen King like few filmmakers do. He tried and failed to get an adaptation of The Long Walk going, and then he got mired down in legal wranglings over The Walking Dead. Sad stuff, but at least we do have his three stellar King films. The first, of course, remains a gem as <strong><em>The Shawshank Redemption<\/em><\/strong> (1994) is one of those films that just works on all counts with terrific performances, a fantastic score, and a story of hope and resilience that earns cheers by its end. The haters can suck it, this movie is perfection.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m admittedly not as big a fan of <strong><em>The Green Mile<\/em><\/strong> (1999), but the issue stems more from King\u2019s source material which never quite finds its groove across those serial installments. Darabont\u2019s film helps considerably, as does the casting of Tom Hanks in the lead role, and the story of a prisoner on death row containing multitudes of magic finds its way on the screen. Moments of cruelty are paired with real kindness, and while it\u2019s far more of a low-key journey it\u2019s still one worth taking.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Oldest_New_Arrival_to_Netflix\"><\/span>The Oldest New Arrival to Netflix<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-370474\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/christine.jpg\" alt=\"Christine\" width=\"800\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/christine.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/christine-768x408.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Viewers looking to stretch out their Stephen King time on Netflix can cap the marathon off with John Carpenter\u2019s <strong><em>Christine<\/em><\/strong> (1983). Far less beloved than the films above, it\u2019s something of an under-appreciated movie in the filmographies of both King and Carpenter. An awkward teen buys a possessed car and soon falls under its control, and while themes of bullying, masculinity, and more weave throughout, it\u2019s the visuals and soundtrack that drive <em>Christine<\/em> to greatness.
