{"id":410594,"date":"2022-02-24T22:12:03","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T19:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/latest-mysterious-space-signal-tracked-to-an-unexpected-location\/"},"modified":"2022-02-24T22:12:03","modified_gmt":"2022-02-24T19:12:03","slug":"latest-mysterious-space-signal-tracked-to-an-unexpected-location","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/latest-mysterious-space-signal-tracked-to-an-unexpected-location\/","title":{"rendered":"#Latest mysterious space signal tracked to an unexpected location"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Latest mysterious space signal tracked to an unexpected location<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/02\/galaxy-M81-76.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Astronomers have identified a nearby galaxy as the point of origin of a mystifying space signal.<\/p>\n<p>The recently discovered space signal is categorized as a repeating\u00a0fast radio burst\u00a0(FRB) and has been designated \u2018FRB 20200120E,\u2019 according to a new\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-021-04354-w\">study<\/a>\u00a0published in the journal Nature.<\/p>\n<p>FRBs are defined as a very intense, millisecond-long burst of radio waves that are produced by unidentified sources in deep space.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, now astronomers think that FRB20200120E may be coming from the direction of nearby galaxy\u00a0M81, which is about 11.74 million light-years away.<\/p>\n<p>If the radio signal did indeed come from M81 it would make FRB20200120E the closest known extragalactic fast radio burst \u2013 40 times closer to our galaxy than the next-closest extragalactic FRB, according to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/mysterious-repeating-fast-radio-burst-traced-to-very-unexpected-location\">Science Alert<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Still, there is one element in the recent findings that are baffling scientists: The signal seems to be associated with a globular cluster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere we report observations that localized the FRB to a globular cluster associated with M81, where it is 2 parsecs away from the optical center of the cluster,\u201d the researchers\u00a0wrote in a journal article.<\/p>\n<p>This is strange because globular clusters are home to a community of very old (and typically low-mass) stars \u2013 contradictory to our current belief that FRBs are formed in high-mass, core-collapsing supernovas.<\/p>\n<p>Albeit rare, researchers propose that it is not completely out of the realm of possibilities that the FRB is coming from the globular cluster, citing several potential scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe propose instead that FRB\u200920200120E originates from a highly magnetized neutron star formed either through the accretion-induced collapse of a white dwarf or the merger of compact stars in a binary system,\u201d the study noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompact binaries are efficiently formed inside globular clusters, so a model invoking them could also be responsible for the observed bursts,\u201d the study\u2019s authors added.<\/p>\n<p>Although there is not enough evidence to definitively determine the cause of the FRB, a flashing black hole may also be responsible, according to past studies (per\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/32501-mystery-fast-radio-burst-caused-by-flashing-black-hole.html\">Space.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>FRB20200120E was initially detected in 2021 using the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN) 70 m dish (DSS-63) at radio frequencies between 2.2 and 2.3 GHz, according to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ui.adsabs.harvard.edu\/abs\/2021ApJ...919L...6M\/abstract\">Harvard\u2019s Astrophysics Data System<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>This article originally <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/tech\/4757041\/mysterious-space-signal-galaxy-aliens\/\">The Sun<\/a> and was reproduced here with permission.<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
