Canada has granted citizens of more than 60 countries and jurisdictions visa-free access to this country, and while Canadians can visit Ukraine for up to 90 days without a visa, Ukrainians require one to travel to Canada.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Global has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8651596\/russia-ukraine-war-canada-immigration\/\">a story<\/a> on the visa question.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chrystia Freeland<\/strong>, who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/02\/27\/canada-russia-cash-freeze-freeland-00012139\">has been working<\/a> to build an international coalition for financial sanctions, gave <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cafreeland\/status\/1498479774221717507\">a widely praised speech<\/a> at Trudeau\u2019s news conference on Monday, casting Ukraine\u2019s battle as a battle for all of\u00a0 humanity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bob Rae<\/strong>, who has been speaking forcefully for Ukraine in his role as ambassador to the United Nations, gave <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Lfum9XNhCdA\">a widely praised speech<\/a> at the General Assembly on Monday, speaking emotionally about the horror of war and the importance of the principle of national sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Something needs to be done: John Ivison<\/strong>, of the<em> Post<\/em>, who was watching the debate at the UN, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/opinion\/john-ivison-at-the-un-a-dramatic-feeling-that-something-needs-to-be-done-this-time\">writes that<\/a>\u00a0there is reason to think the UN might act in unprecedented ways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No more RT:<\/strong> Canada moved Monday to remove Russia Today TV from Canadian screens, Reuters <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/media-telecom\/major-canadian-cable-operators-block-russian-state-owned-broadcaster-rt-2022-02-28\/\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dangerous road trip:<\/strong> The <em>Globe\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0<strong>Mark MacKinnon<\/strong> has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-on-the-ground-in-ukraine-its-amazing-how-fast-the-shocking-becomes\/?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">a vivid report<\/a> from Ukraine, an account of a drive from a safe house outside Kyiv to a hopefully safer city further south. MacKinnon and his driver encountered checkpoints manned by civilian volunteers, one of whom vetted MacKinnon by calling Etobicoke.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Our Land Rover, which somehow came complete with British licence plates, drew particular attention. My Canadian passport and Ukrainian press identification weren\u2019t enough to impress <strong>Anton Alexandrovich<\/strong>, the 41-year-old chief of the checkpoint. He called what he said was his brother in Etobicoke, Ont., and handed me the phone. It was about 4 a.m. in Ontario, but his brother was awake and following developments in Ukraine. I told Mr. Alexandrovich\u2019s brother that if he opened <em>The Globe and Mail<\/em> homepage, he\u2019d see who I was and the work I was doing. That wasn\u2019t sufficient. I told him I grew up in Ottawa, but he wanted to know more. \u201cWhere precisely in Ottawa?\u201d he asked. \u201cStittsville,\u201d I said. \u201cMy house was right near the rink where the Senators play.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Real strong man:<\/strong> In the <em>Star<\/em>, military historian\u00a0<strong>Nathan M. Greenfield<\/strong> has a<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/politics\/political-opinion\/2022\/02\/28\/vladimir-putin-is-learning-who-the-actual-strongman-of-europe-is.html\"> breezy and interesting piece<\/a> on\u00a0<strong>Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong>, the comedian-turned-president who has used <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> to rally his country and frustrate the schemes of Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The words that history will remember from this war: \u201cI need ammunition, not a ride\u201d are as rhetorically impressive as Admiral <strong>Horatio Nelson\u2019s<\/strong> \u201cEngland expects that every man will do his duty\u201d before Trafalgar, U.S. Admiral<strong> David Farragut\u2019s<\/strong>, \u201cDamn the torpedoes, full speed ahead\u201d at the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864 and more pungently, \u201cNuts,\u201d the reply of senior American commander Brigadier-General <strong>Anthony McAuliffe<\/strong> to the German general who offered him the opportunity to surrender at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Russian warning:<\/strong> Russia\u2019s foreign ministry demanded that Canada keep its diplomats safe after hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Russian Embassy in Ottawa on Sunday, the Post <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/canada\/russia-threatens-retaliation-after-hostile-ottawa-protest-in-support-of-ukraine\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>International brigade:<\/strong> Ukraine has called for volunteers from around the world to fight there for democracy in a new international brigade. The Post <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/some-canadians-want-to-answer-ukraines-call-for-foreign-fighters\">spoke<\/a> to several young Canadians thinking about making the trip.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freeland or Anand:<\/strong> Writing for CTV, <strong>Don Martin<\/strong> praises the Trudeau government\u2019s response to the Ukraine crisis, and suggests the next prime minister might have been next to him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There comes a moment where you study an Opposition leader or a cabinet minister and you just know they\u2019re ready to become prime minister one day. In Trudeau\u2019s case, while he was delivering his usual breathless dramatizations of the situation at Monday\u2019s news conference, the heir <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arents framed him on the television screen. To his right, deputy prime minister <strong>Chrystia Freeland<\/strong>, fidgeting with a thick stack of documents. To his left, looking calm and cool, Defence Minister <strong>Anita Anand<\/strong>. Either one looks ready to step into Trudeau\u2019s shoes and deliver far superior leadership.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Charest comes to town:<\/strong> Speaking of leadership, Jean Charest is <strong>headed to Ottawa<\/strong> to meet with MPs, presumably to talk to them about a leadership run, CPC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/news\/politics\/jean-charest-to-meet-mps-in-ottawa-later-this-week-adding-to-leadership-speculation\">reports<\/a>. So far, only Pierre Poilievre has declared his candidacy. There are <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlainRayes\/status\/1498115081808269314\">signs on Twitter<\/a> that a Poilievre-Charest contest would be a no-holds-barred affair. <strong>Peter MacKay<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalpost.com\/opinion\/peter-mackay-this-was-never-just-ukraines-fight-canada-is-vulnerable-to-russia-in-the-north\">also appears<\/a> to be considering a run.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Convoy committee:<\/strong>\u00a0The federal Liberals are pushing ahead with a plans for a committee to review the Emergencies Act although the opposition Conservatives are objecting to its composition, the <em>Globe<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/politics\/article-liberals-put-forward-motion-to-create-oversight-committee-on\/?utm_medium=Referrer:+Social+Network+\/+Media&amp;utm_campaign=Shared+Web+Article+Links\">reports<\/a>.
