“#Upcoming The Imaginary Movie Gets Delay<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Studio Ponoc<\/strong> has announced a delay for upcoming movie The Imaginary<\/em>. The anime<\/a> film was originally announced in December 2021 with a Summer 2022 Japanese release date, and it is now unknown when it will be released.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs our talented artists and animators continue our tradition of splendidly beautiful hand-drawn animation and hand-painted backgrounds, we are carefully exploring new and innovative ways to tell our stories,\u201d a news<\/a> update on the Studio Ponoc website said. \u201cIt\u2019s a tricky and careful balance and we think The Imaginary<\/strong> deserves it\u2026 and that you, our audience, will love the results. These new challenges \u2013 and a few pandemic-hurdles \u2013 have resulted in the studio postponing our release in Japan. We remain hard at work, making great progress.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Imaginary<\/em>\u00a0is based on the 2014 novel by\u00a0A. F. Harrold<\/strong>\u00a0with illustrations from\u00a0Emily Gravett<\/strong>.\u00a0Ponoc<\/strong>\u00a0describes the movie as:<\/span><\/p>\n

The main character of\u00a0The Imaginary<\/strong>\u00a0is Rudger. Born from a young girl\u2019s imagination, Rudger is a boy no one can see who lives in a world where imaginations can live and be eaten by others.\u00a0The Imaginary<\/strong>\u00a0is an extraordinarily touching and beautiful hand-drawn fantasy film in which Rudger and his new friends in \u201cThe Imaginaries Town\u201d embark on an adventure no one can see at the risk of the futures and fates of those they love.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The movie\u2019s director is Yoshiyuki Momose<\/strong>, who previously helmed the 2019\u00a0Ni no Kuni\u00a0<\/em>movie and has credits ranging from character design on the\u00a0Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom<\/em>\u00a0video game<\/a> to key animation on Studio Ghibli films like\u00a0Porco Rosso<\/em>,\u00a0Pom Poko\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Whisper of the Heart<\/em>. The other currently\u00a0announced staff member for The Imaginary<\/em>\u00a0is producer\u00a0Yoshiaki Nishimura<\/strong>, who founded Ponoc and previously produced the studio\u2019s debut film\u00a0Mary and The Witch\u2019s Flower\u00a0<\/em>and the\u00a0Modest Heroes: Ponoc Short Films Theatre, Volume 1<\/em>\u00a0anthology (Momose\u00a0<\/strong>directed the anthology\u2019s \u201cLife Ain\u2019t Gonna Lose\u201d short<\/span>). Like\u00a0Momose<\/strong>,\u00a0Nishimura<\/strong>\u00a0was previously affiliated with Studio Ghibli, with producer credits on films like\u00a0The Tale of The Princess Kaguya\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0When Marnie Was There<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
