Abbott, Beto O\u2019Rourke to face off after wins<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott handily beat several vocal challengers during Tuesday\u2019s primary, leading to a November face-off with Democrat Beto O\u2019Rourke, who also cruised to victory.<\/p>\n<p>The incumbent governor, who is seeking a third term, easily won his party\u2019s nomination, fending off six other candidates, including Allen West, a former congressman and chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublicans sent a message,\u201d Abbott said. \u201cThey want to keep Texas on the extraordinary path of opportunity that we have provided over the past eight years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Rourke \u2014 who made high-profile, though unsuccessful, runs for Senate in 2018 and president in 2020 \u2014 had been heavily favored to emerge from a five-person field.<\/p>\n<p>He celebrated his win with a rally in Fort Worth, where in 2018 he flipped Texas\u2019 largest red county.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis group of people, and then some, are going to make me the first Democrat to be governor of the state of Texas since 1994,\u201d he told supporters. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/texas-primaries-410.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton faced a primary challenge and might be headed to a runoff.\" class=\"wp-image-21382283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/texas-primaries-410.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/texas-primaries-410.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/texas-primaries-410.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Texas Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Ken Paxton faced a primary challenge and might be headed to a runoff.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Joel Martinez<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The most-watched race in the Lone Star State, however, was the Republican primary for state attorney general, which saw incumbent Ken Paxton\u00a0locked in a fierce battle against three challengers.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton \u2014 who has been the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation into whether he used his position to improperly assist a campaign donor \u2014 had hoped an endorsement from former President Donald Trump would put him over the top.<\/p>\n<p>But the embattled AG <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared to be heading to a May 24 runoff after he failed to notch the 50 percent threshold needed to win the primary outright. <\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely clear who would join him in that race from the other candidates: Rep. Louie Gohmert, Texas Land Commissioner George P.
