While shareholders in public companies are allowed to weigh in on executive compensation, the votes are nonbinding \u2014 meaning Apple could have moved forward with the plan even if shareholders had voted to reject it.<\/p>\n<p>Still, a rejection would have marked a significant rebuke for Apple.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Institutional Shareholder Services, an advisory firm, argued shareholders should vote down the compensation. The firm said that elements of Cook\u2019s payday, such as $712,000 for private jet <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>, were extreme compared to those offered by similar companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are significant concerns regarding the design and magnitude of the equity award made to CEO Cook,\u201d ISS said in a report ahead of the shareholder meeting.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Tim-Cook-_19-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Apple logo\" class=\"wp-image-21419903\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Tim-Cook-_19-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Tim-Cook-_19-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Tim-Cook-_19-1.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Tim Cook\u2019s deal was 1,447 times larger than the pay package offered to Apple\u2019s average employee.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Bill Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Apple outlined the pay plan in an SEC filing made public in January \u2014 noting the company\u2019s stock price and revenue had surged under Cook\u2019s leadership. Cook received an equity award for the first time since he was named CEO in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Cook\u2019s pay marked a significant increase compared to the previous year, when he earned the relatively paltry sum of $14.8 million in compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Shareholders also voted to confirm Apple\u2019s board of directors and approved a proposal pushing the company to conduct an independent civil rights audit of its internal policies and practices.
