Today, we\u2019re watching a video essay that explores the connections between Cowboy Bebop and the Blade Runner films.&lt;\/em&gt;\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<hr\/>\n<p>The cultural impact of <strong>Ridley Scott<\/strong>\u2018s 1982 film\u00a0<em><strong>Blade Runner<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>cannot be overstated. It is the gritty, cyberpunk daydream that launched a hundred tech-noirs. An amalgam of pop-culture influences itself,\u00a0<em>Blade Runner<\/em>\u2018s fingerprints are all over sci-fi cinema:\u00a0<em>Brazil<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Strange Days, Dark City, Ghost in the Shell<\/em>, the list goes on and on. And yet, one jazzy offering stands out among the small-screen offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Released at the dawn of the new millennium, <em><strong>Cowboy Bebop<\/strong><\/em> merged the far-flung swashbuckling energy of Space Westerns with a distinctly existential neo-noir tinge. Set in the now within reach future of 2071, the show sees humanity cast out across the Solar System, reliant on bounty hunters (known as \u201cCowboys\u201d) to track down criminals and keep some semblance of peace. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Series<\/a> director Shinichiro Watanabe has always worn his admiration for\u00a0<em>Blade Runner\u00a0<\/em>on his sleeve as a major influence. As a point of fact, this all came full circle when Watanabe directed a 15-minute animated short film <em>Blade Runner Black Out 2022\u00a0<\/em>in 2017, part of a series of shorts linking Scott\u2019s original to\u00a0<strong>Denis Villeneuve<\/strong>\u2018s impending sequel,\u00a0<strong><em>Blade Runner 2049<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As the video essay below elegantly suggests, both\u00a0<strong><em>Cowboy Bebop\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>and Villeneuve\u2019s film have a great deal in common, from superficial similarities and synchronicities to deeper musculature that verges on poetic likeness: \u201cnot homage, but a shared soul.\u201d Indeed, both the film and the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/anime-manga\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"6\" title=\"Anime || Manga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anime<\/a> series have an especially crunchy relationship with their forebearer; more than just a footnote, they are both explicitly concerned in existential matters such as legacy, purpose, and the fuzzy intersections in between.<\/p>\n<p>(Also,\u00a0<em>Cowboy Bebop <\/em>fans, as if you needed more of a reason to check out the video below, Steve Blum himself \u2014 the English voice of Spike Spiegel \u2014 makes an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance reciting Roy Batty\u2019s \u201cTears in the Rain\u201d monologue.
