However, much of the misinformation currently spreading doesn\u2019t involve deepfakes.<\/p>\n<p>Some researchers are more worried about people sharing images that look like they\u2019re from the current war \u2014 but are actually recycled from older events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a lot easier for someone to search around for a photo or video and repost it rather than create a deepfake, which are hard to make,\u201d Daniel Funke, a reporter on USA Today\u2019s fact-checking team, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/ukraine-misinformation-videos-context-c9c13e84-7a9e-4578-8e52-6b8f34379f92.html\">told Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Similar observations were made in the run-up to the 2020 US presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>While researchers warned that deepfakes could influence the results, outright lies and basic editing were far more prominent forms of spreading misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>This doesn\u2019t mean that deepfakes are not a danger.
