Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> that offers online background checks so that users can research whether their dates have been convicted of violent crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Match Group, Tinder\u2019s parent company, announced the partnership with Garbo, the online platform that allows users to access public information including people\u2019s arrests, convictions, and sex offender registry records. <\/p>\n<p>Tinder users who log into the app\u2019s safety center will be directed to Garbo, where they can input the name and phone number of their match.<\/p>\n<p>Garbo will then provide information about possible arrests and convictions for certain violent crimes as well as sex offender registry status.<\/p>\n<p>Tinder and other dating apps, including Bumble, have come under pressure to act after women reported being sexually assaulted by men they met through online platforms. <\/p>\n<p>In September 2020, Match Group hired Tracey Breeden as vice president of safety and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> advocacy whose portfolio includes other subsidiaries such as Hinge, Match, OKCupid, and PlentyofFish.<\/p>\n<p>Breeden was hired away from Uber, where she held the same position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe we have an important role to play in creating safer spaces for everyone,\u201d Breeden told The Post.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tinder-74.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"In this photo illustration a Tinder logo seen displayed on a smartphone.\" class=\"wp-image-21469504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tinder-74.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tinder-74.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tinder-74.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Tinder was sued more than a decade ago by a woman who alleged she was raped by a man she met on the app \u2014 who had been convicted of rape six times.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">SOPA Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOur users \u2014 and the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> public at large \u2014 have the right to access public records about someone they may want to meet, particularly when information that can impact safety. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re so excited about this partnership with Garbo \u2014 it represents a big step forward in safety for our users and the industry as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/tinder-lets-known-sex-offenders-use-the-app-its-not-the-only-one\">the news site ProPublica<\/a> found that while Match Group, the Dallas-based firm that owns 45 online dating brands, screened for sexual predators on the Match site, it did not do so for Tinder, OKCupid, or PlentyofFish.<\/p>\n<p>Match is an app for paid subscribers, while the other dating apps in the Match Group portfolio are free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, Carole Markin, an entertainment industry executive, filed a lawsuit against Match after she told police she was raped on the second date by a man she met on the site who was convicted of rape six times beforehand.<\/p>\n<p>Match and Markin reached a settlement. The company also set up a screening process to vet users for sex crimes and criminal convictions.<\/p>\n<p>Match Group has taken other measures to enhance user safety in light of reported assaults.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, it bought a stake in Noonlight, which allows users to notify police by clicking a button in cases of an emergency.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
