Like his former partner \u2014 who was found guilty on four counts of fraud in January and is out on $500,000 bail while awaiting sentencing \u00a0\u2014 he faces multiple counts of wire fraud. Balwani is said to have told Holmes what to eat, estranged her from her family, and put her on a schedule that had her working seven days per week. But after the company reportedly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/matthewherper\/2016\/06\/01\/from-4-5-billion-to-nothing-forbes-revises-estimated-net-worth-of-theranos-founder-elizabeth-holmes\/?sh=67770b383633\">raised some $724 million in investments<\/a>, the machine was proved inoperable \u2014\u00a0never mind that it was promoted by Holmes and Balwani as working just fine, potentially putting test subjects at risk.<\/p>\n<p>According to the book \u201cBad Blood\u201d by John Carreyrou, one of the Wall Street Journal writers who broke the Theranos fraud story, Balwani was \u201ca force of nature but not in a good way.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Ramesh-Sunny-Balwani-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Balwani allegedly was an aggressive manager at Theranos.\" class=\"wp-image-21486359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Ramesh-Sunny-Balwani-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Ramesh-Sunny-Balwani-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/Ramesh-Sunny-Balwani-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Balwani allegedly was an aggressive manager at Theranos.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Kris Tripplaar<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He arrived in the United States from Pakistan in 1986 for undergraduate studies and put in a decade as a software engineer at Microsoft and Lotus. According to \u201cBad Blood,\u201d during an early meeting he attended at Theranos, Balwani claimed to have \u201cwritten a million lines of [computer] code.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>That was viewed as ridiculous by Theranos employees. According to Hastings Law Journal, NDAs were so much a part of the culture that when a departing employee refused to sign one, Balwani summoned the police. To explain the crime being committed, he insisted that the employee \u201cstole property in his mind.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>But Balwani failed to work his dark magic with employee Tyler Shultz, the grandson of George Shultz, a former treasury of state and a board member of Theranos. In early 2014, Tyler became an initial whistle-blower at the firm, reporting to New York State Department of Health regulators that the blood testing machine was a sham.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after, he told CBS <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>, Balwani <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/theranos-whistleblower-tyler-shultz-elizabeth-holmes-conviction\/\">responded aggressively<\/a>. By the next year, the jig was up for Theranos as news broke about fraudulent claims and deceptive practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSunny pushed back whenever someone requested more information about the workings of the machine,\u201d said the source. \u201cThey brought people in, so-called VIPs, who were big investors, and would show off the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>. They did finger tests, took blood and put it into the fake machines. Then, while the VIPs were on the tour, the blood would be put into a legitimate machine [from an outside manufacturer]. Theranos staffers came back with accurate results that were purported to have come from the Edison.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, the source believes, Balwani\u2019s alleged misdeeds were not purely out of cold-hearted malice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSunny is a smart guy. I don\u2019t think he set out to commit fraud, but the company needed to raise money for [Holmes\u2019] pipe dream \u2014 maybe it would h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en, maybe it wouldn\u2019t, but he thought he had something that would work eventually,\u201d the source said.  \u201cUntil then, though, he would lie.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
