A March 11 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Princeton\/status\/1501967752025690112\">video<\/a> from the university states that \u201cwe are at a very early stage in understanding the opportunities and challenges\u201d associated with cryptocurrency and blockchain.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe initiative will convene scholars across disciplines to understand the potential benefits and pitfalls of blockchain and other technologies, and their potential to disrupt centers of societal power.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Princeton\u2019s Venture Forward <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/alumni.princeton.edu\/stories\/venture-forward-campaign-launch\">campaign<\/a> is an engagement and fundraising campaign to build community and alumni engagement, seek critical philanthropic support for the University, and share Princeton\u2019s defining principles and their impact on the world.<\/p>\n<p>The university believes that focusing on decentralization will promote growth in three areas of study. Singh has embraced a \u201chighly collaborative research\u201d approach to determine how blockchain can \u201cresult in the most benefit and the least harm,\u201d according to a statement from the university. <\/p>\n<p>Singh commented that computer scientists have faced a long uphill battle in figuring out how to achieve consensus \u201camong a distributed set of entities who don\u2019t trust one another.\u201d He added that while Bitcoin (BTC) has largely solved that problem, decentralization may well be a new turning point for society.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe decentralization of trust may be just as powerful and transformative as the worldwide web.
