\n Consider Jets linebacker Avery Williamson one of the skeptics about the NFL\u2019s ability to pull off a full season. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of guys in this league and a lot of guys do stupid stuff,\u201d Williamson said via Zoom on Wednesday. \u201cI feel like it\u2019s going to be tough for guys to do the right thing the entire year. That\u2019s just my opinion. Hopefully, guys police each other. I feel like it\u2019s going to be tough. You see what\u2019s happ<\/a>ening in baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williamson pointed out that baseball teams are on the road more than football teams, but he still feels it will be tough for football to avoid a COVID-related shutdown at some point. <\/p>\n

\u201cGuys are used to going out and doing what they want to do,\u201d the veteran linebacker said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to take some maturity for guys to be smart and not party and try to keep to themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coach Adam Gase said he and general<\/a> manager Joe Douglas had multiple conversations with linebacker C.J. Mosley before Mosley decided to opt out of the season because of COVID-19 concerns. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe wasn\u2019t comfortable with the situation, and he had the ability to opt out,\u201d Gase said on a conference call Wednesday. \u201cHe made his decision. He made it fairly early in the process. I appreciated that he did that. Obviously, we\u2019ll miss him this season but, like always, we\u2019ll have the next-man-up mentality. I feel like we do have a lot of depth at that position. They\u2019ll step up and do everything they can to fill the void. We\u2019ll develop great team chemistry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/hr>\n

Gase was asked if the Jets are a playoff contender.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think any time when we go into the season there\u2019s so many factors that play into it,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cRight now where we\u2019re at we haven\u2019t even started training camp. Our goal is always going to be playing in January, always going to be the goal. We have to do everything we can to make sure that\u2019s where we end up. We\u2019re always going to be shooting to do that. That\u2019s going to be the goal this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gase said he does not anticipate anyone else opting out before Thursday\u2019s 4 p.m. deadline. \u2026 He said the coaching staff has been working on a \u201cdepth chart\u201d since April just in case a coach tests positive for coronavirus and has to miss time. \u2026 ILB James Burgess was added to the reserve\/CO-VID-19 list on Wednesday, meaning he either tested positive or was exposed to someone who was infected. He is the fourth Jets player placed on the list.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
