He even started throwing shade after Matthew gave an interview on the <em>Today Show<\/em>. It\u2019s sad, but at this point we\u2019re less and less surprised as he continues to point fingers everywhere but himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Alec Blasts Halyna Hutchins\u2019 Family, Other Plaintiffs As Money Hungry!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, even though he was a producer, on top of the call sheet, and the person who wielded and shot the gun that killed Halyna, the <em>30 Rock<\/em> alum is now claiming that his contract \u201cprotected him from financial responsibility in her death,\u201d according to the <em>New York Times<\/em>. On Friday, Alec filed an arbitration demand against his fellow Rust producers, and even went so far as to demand the production pay his legal fees.<\/p>\n<p>Even worse, these legal docs seem to try to pass off some of the blame on to HALYNA for the shooting! The arbitration (obtained by the <em>NY Times<\/em>) described the cinematographer\u2019s actions moments before shooting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cShe directed Baldwin to hold the gun higher, to a point where it was directed toward her. She was looking carefully at the monitor and then at Baldwin, and then back again, as she gave these instructions. In giving and following these instructions, Hutchins and Baldwin shared a core, vital belief: that the gun was \u2018cold\u2019 and contained no live rounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the docs, the Emmy winner then asked if Halyna wanted him to \u201cpull back the hammer\u201d as was written in the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>, and she said yes. The docs stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBaldwin then pulled back the hammer, but not far enough to actually cock the gun. When Baldwin let go of the hammer, the gun went off.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>His lawyers insist Alec was \u201cshocked\u201d when he discovered that he had fired a live bullet, which he didn\u2019t find out until the end of his interview with the <strong>Santa Fe County Sheriff<\/strong>\u2019s Office after the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, there\u2019s a clause in the 63-year-old\u2019s contract with <strong>Rust Movie Productions L.L.C.<\/strong> that absolves him of financial responsibility for legal fees or claims arising out of the death. Per the <em>Times<\/em>, his lawyer <strong>Luke Nikas<\/strong> stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSomeone is culpable for chambering the live round that led to this horrific tragedy, and it is someone other than Baldwin. This is a rare instance when the system broke down, and someone should be held legally culpable for the tragic consequences. That person is not Alec Baldwin.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Niklas, Alec had argued in favor of finishing the film after the shooting, \u201coutlining a plan in which an insurance payout and the film\u2019s profits would go to a settlement for Mr. Hutchins and the couple\u2019s 9-year-old son.\u201d Of course, that didn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n<p>The filing reiterated the story he told about meeting Matthew Hutchins for the first time (\u201cHutchins hugged Baldwin and told him, \u2018I guess we\u2019re going to go through this together.&#8217;\u201d) and even reproduced text messages the two exchanged in the aftermath. In these texts, Matthew had apparently agreed to stay in contact with Alec against \u201cthe likely wishes of his legal advisers and press representative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The docs characterize their correspondence:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBefore Hutchins\u2019s appearance on the \u2018Today\u2019 show, his interactions with Baldwin had only been polite, collaborative, and, at times, even warm.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, Matthew isn\u2019t the only one who gets thrown under the bus. According to the docs, <strong>Mamie Mitchell<\/strong> (a script supervisor who filed a suit against Alec and other producers) actually said to him shortly after the shooting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYou realize you\u2019re not responsible for any of what happened in there, don\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Related: <em>Rust<\/em> Armorer Sues Ammunition Supplier Over Live Rounds, Shares New Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Further, the filing claims armorer <strong>Hannah Gutierrez-Reed<\/strong> specifically told the star that \u201cit was her job to check the gun \u2014 not his.\u201d He also denied accusations about a lack of gun training, asserting that he had \u201cinquired about lessons about a month before he showed up on set and that he had training once he had arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The docs reiterated another one of Alec\u2019s oft-repeated arguments:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAn actor cannot rule that a gun is safe. That is the responsibility of other people on the set.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We have know idea how this mess will be untangled legally. But we do think that Alec\u2019s self-victimizing, belligerent press tour has just made things worse. If he had handled matters privately and respectfully with those who were grieving, we might have viewed this arbitration differently. After all, he\u2019s just sharing his side of things.
