Spencer Green<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2008, the conditions of the jail <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently were so bad that the United States Department of Justice conducted an investigation and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/crt\/legacy\/2011\/04\/13\/CookCountyJail_findingsletter_7-11-08.pdf\">released a report<\/a> that found that the jail had \u201cfailed to adequately protect inmates from harm or risk of harm from other inmates or staff; failed to provide adequate suicide prevention; failed to provide adequate sanitary environmental conditions; failed to provide adequate fire safety precautions; and failed to provide adequate medical and mental health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>The report also claimed that inmates had been forced to sleep on cell floors due to overcrowding, which led to a class-action lawsuit and a settlement.<\/p>\n<p>In a more recent incident, in 2018, a huge, violent <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/chicago\/news\/cook-county-jail-brawl\/#:~:text=CHICAGO%20(CBS)%20%2D%2D%20Sixteen%20inmates,in%20the%20jail's%20Division%209\">brawl broke out<\/a> and dozens of inmates <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/true-crime\/wp\/2018\/02\/27\/chicago-jailhouse-brawl-captured-on-camera\/\">were injured<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www2.illinois.gov\/sites\/gac\/HRA\/HRAReports\/18-030-9008%209011.pdf\">Chicago\u2019s Human Rights Authority<\/a>, approximately 100,000 people circulate through the jail annually. The daily population averages 7,500, mainly people detained awaiting trial and not yet convicted.<\/p>\n<p>Situated on a colossal 96 acres of land, the jail is considered the \u201clargest single-site jail in the country,\u201d the its website states. It is composed of 10 divisions, with each including a day room for eating and watching television.
