shortage of great options if you\u2019re looking for free cloud storage. Plenty of companies will let you store several gigabytes in the cloud, and all you need to do is create an account. We\u2019ve put together our five favorites.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Makes_the_Best_Free_Cloud_Storage\"><\/span>What Makes the Best Free Cloud Storage?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ve put together our picks in no particular order: all of them have something going for them, from Google Drive\u2019s excellent suite of tools to Sync.com\u2019s security features. In each case, we\u2019ll go over what the allotment of free storage is and what extras there are on offer.<\/p>\n<p>You may notice that <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\">Dropbox<\/a> is missing from our list, this is because it only offers 2GB of free storage, which isn\u2019t a whole lot. Also missing is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.icloud.com\/\">Apple\u2019s iCloud<\/a>, which is a little more generous at 5GB but is intended mainly for people who own <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le devices\u2014Apple <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT204174\">only provides 1GB<\/a> if you don\u2019t own an Apple device. As most other picks can be used on any device, we felt it was a little fairer.<\/p>\n<p>Also note that in our calculations we have not included any bonuses gained by performing certain actions. For example, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/3607085\/type\/am\/sid\/787191\/https:\/\/www.pcloud.com\/\">pCloud<\/a> lets you cobble together as much as 10GB of free storage, provided you refer friends to the service. However, the base allotment is just 2GB, which is too low for this list. That said, we will mention when options like that exist.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Google_Drive_15GB\"><\/span>Google Drive: 15GB<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-787196\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/google-drive-homepage.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Google Drive homepage\" width=\"650\" height=\"298\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Our first pick is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/drive\/\">Google Drive<\/a>, as it\u2019s a great option for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is its 15GB of storage, which you get for free for simply making a Google account. Also included are a Gmail address and access to all of Google\u2019s office-style products, like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. It\u2019s a full package, including Google Photos\u2014which, unfortunately, no longer offers unlimited photo storage. Photos you store count toward your 15GB limit.<\/p>\n<p>There are, of course, strings attached. A Google account will track you\u00a0wherever you go unless you sign out\u2014or use incognito mode\u2014and that may even include your location. Still, if you\u2019re not too worried about the panopticon, Google Drive is a great deal as it offers lots of storage and usability at the same time.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Microsoft_OneDrive_5GB\"><\/span>Microsoft OneDrive: 5GB<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-787195\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/OneDrive-Homepage.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"OneDrive homepage\" width=\"650\" height=\"259\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Our next entry is another industry behemoth, Microsoft\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=2QzUaswX1as&amp;mid=24542&amp;u1=htg\/787191&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fmicrosoft-365%2Fonedrive%2Fonline-cloud-storage\">OneDrive<\/a>. Like Google Drive, it\u2019s part of a larger suite of apps and you access it through a free Microsoft account. If you own a Windows computer or use any other Microsoft products, including Skype, you already have one. Signing up gets you 5GB of storage through OneDrive, as well as access to a number of apps in the Office 365 package.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, we like what Microsoft has to offer less than Google\u2019s apps. In our experience, Microsoft\u2019s web-based Office apps often feel slower to respond than Google\u2019s. On top of that, OneDrive only offers one-third of Google\u2019s storage allotment, so even when looking at just those numbers, Redmond\u2019s offering disappoints.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"MEGA_20GB_for_the_First_Year\"><\/span>MEGA: 20GB for the First Year<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-787194\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/MEGA-Homepage.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"MEGA homepage\" width=\"650\" height=\"249\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Our third entry is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mega.io\">MEGA<\/a>, and it\u2019s also the one that offers the most storage for free: 20GB. You can even expand this further with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/help.mega.io\/plans-storage\/achievements\/free-space\">certain achievements<\/a>, like installing the mobile and desktop apps or referring a friend, each of which nets you an added 5GB of space. However, this extra storage only lasts a year, which is a shame.<\/p>\n<p>Though MEGA doesn\u2019t offer any office-style apps like Google and Microsoft do, it does have much better security. It encrypts all your files when you send them into the cloud, meaning that even if your files manage to get intercepted, nobody will be able to see what\u2019s inside. However, it\u2019s worth noting that, a few years ago, MEGA\u2019s browser extension was hacked and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/mega-nz-chrome-extension-caught-stealing-passwords-cryptocurrency-private-keys\/\">found stealing passwords<\/a> so the company does not have a bulletproof security record.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"IceDrive_10GB\"><\/span>IceDrive: 10GB<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-787193\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/IceDrive-Homepage.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"IceDrive homepage\" width=\"650\" height=\"308\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/icedrive.net\">IceDrive<\/a> is a relative newcomer to the cloud storage market but has made its mark thanks to solid security and, more importantly, offering a whopping 10GB of storage space for free. All you need to do is supply your email address to create an account and it\u2019s all yours. There are no referral offers like with MEGA, but 10GB is nothing to sneeze at.<\/p>\n<p>Like MEGA, IceDrive is a very secure service, but it does have some nifty features the competition doesn\u2019t have. For example, it lets you preview encrypted files, which normally isn\u2019t possible. It does this by temporarily decrypting files on your end, a neat trick indeed. If this kind of high-tech wizardry sounds good to you, IceDrive is a good pick.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Synccom_5GB\"><\/span>Sync.com: 5GB<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-787192\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Syncdotcom-Hompage.png?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Sync.com homepage\" width=\"650\" height=\"289\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll finish this list with a look at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/redirect.viglink.com\/?key=204a528a336ede4177fff0d84a044482&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sync.com\">Sync.com<\/a>, a cloud storage provider that prides itself on being extremely secure\u2014though many of its advanced functions are missing in the free plan. With just 5GB of space, it\u2019s more of a way to get to know the service before committing\u2014though, as with MEGA you can increase your allotment by installing the app and referring friends.<\/p>\n<p>As most of Sync.com\u2019s best features are locked away until you start paying for it, the free plan isn\u2019t all that special.
