Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le iPhones to Toyota SUVs \u2014 and threatening to make already red-hot global inflation even worse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Key Apple suppliers including Foxconn have been forced to shut down factories in Shenzhen, where iPhones, iPads and Mac computers are produced, after the regional government placed the city into lockdown on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A ban on non-essential work in Shenzhen \u2014 which is known as China\u2019s Silicon Valley and is home to major tech firms like Tencent and Huawei \u2014 is set to last for at least one week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lockdown couldn\u2019t have come in a worse city at a worse time,\u201d Wedbush Securities managing director Dan Ives told The Post. \u201cIf this lasts beyond a week or two, it will be a backbreaker for production.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Foxconn did not im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely respond to a request for comment but the company <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/covid-19-outbreak-shuts-down-some-china-factories-including-apple-supplier-11647246503?mod=tech_lead_pos2\">told the Wall Street Journal<\/a> that it\u2019s shifting production from Shenzhen to factories elsewhere in China that have not been locked down to help keep up with demand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/china-85.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"Foxconn\" class=\"wp-image-21518454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/china-85.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/china-85.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/china-85.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>The lockdown comes just days before Apple is set to release new versions of its lower-cost iPhone SE and iPad Air.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">SAM YEH<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Foxconn shutdowns come just days before Apple plans to release new versions of its lower-cost iPhone SE and iPad Air, among other new products. She said the company expects the shutdown to last until at least Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An ongoing chip shortage in 2020 and 2021 snarled production at auto plants and sent vehicle prices soaring, contributing to overall inflation. A continuing shortage of new cars could help keep inflation high in 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new wave of lockdowns also sent shockwaves through Chinese tech stocks. Alibaba plunged 9%, while Tencent shares fell 5.2% on Monday.
