Has the company lost its mind?<\/p>\n<p>Well, I won\u2019t give Microsoft an armchair diagnosis. Not because I\u2019m unqualified, but because the $800 price tag on the new Smart Camera makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft designed its new Smart Camera exclusively for the Surface Hub 2 and 2S, a pair of massive video conferencing \u201cwhiteboards\u201d that you\u2019ll only find in the poorly-ventilated rooms of a corporate office. The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Microsoft-Surface-PixelSense-Display-Mobile\/dp\/B07V1YWBK1?tag=reviewgeek-20\">cheapest Surface Hub displays<\/a> cost around $9,000, while more expensive options exceed $20,000.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"sgv_TeT8RB8\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/sgv_TeT8RB8\/hqdefault.jpg');\">\n<button type=\"button\" class=\"lty-playbtn\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"lyt-visually-hidden\">Play Video<\/span><br \/>\n<\/button>\n<\/lite-youtube>\n<p>Feature-wise, the new Smart Camera is about as excessive as it can get. Microsoft packed a teraflop of computing power in the Smart Camera, so it\u2019s got more than enough brains to correct undesirable effects. It can automatically frame people in video calls, shear video to make up for poor viewing angles, and automatically compensate for wide-angle distortion.<\/p>\n<p>The Smart Camera only has a 12MP sensor, which is odd, but it can capture 4K video and features an extremely wide\u00a0136-degree field of view. All things considered, it\u2019s easy to see why businesses would pay $800 for the Smart Camera.<\/p>\n<p>Normal human beings like you and I won\u2019t benefit from the Smart Camera.
