href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> owner Meta over scam advertisements for cryptocurrency schemes that falsely claimed to be endorsed by prominent figures.<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s consumer protection commission said it had started Federal Court proceedings against Meta Platforms for \u201cfalse, misleading or deceptive conduct\u201d in breach of consumer or securities laws.<\/p>\n<p>It accused Meta of failing to do enough to stop scam ads for cryptocurrency or money-making schemes, even after being alerted by celebrities who had been misrepresented by similar ads published on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>Meta vowed to defend itself, saying in a statement that it sought to stop scam ads by using <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> to detect and block them. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want ads seeking to scam people out of money or mislead people on Facebook \u2014 they violate our policies and are not good for our community,\u201d a Meta spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"787\" cooperated with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission\u2019s investigation. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>According to the commission, the ads featured well-known Australians, including former New South Wales premier Mike Baird and businessman Dick Smith.<\/p>\n<p>But the high-profile personalities featured in the ads had never <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved or endorsed them, it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApart from resulting in untold losses to consumers, these ads also damage the reputation of the public figures falsely associated with the ads,\u201d said the commission\u2019s chair, Rod Sims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeta failed to take sufficient steps to stop fake ads featuring public figures, even after those public figures reported to Meta that their name and image were being featured in celebrity endorsement cryptocurrency scam ads,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The commission said it was aware of one consumer who had lost more than A$650,000 (US$480,000) in one of the scams being falsely advertised as an investment opportunity on Facebook.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img
