And any Natives who attend @pngisd should prolly just accept their classmates dehumanizing them cuz \u2018tradition\u2019, right? Nostalgic racism is RACISM. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ELsJHRgJlw\">pic.twitter.com\/ELsJHRgJlw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 tara houska \u1516\u1433\u140c\u1474 (@zhaabowekwe) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zhaabowekwe\/status\/1504621921278865414?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 18, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Her complaint on Thursday attracted more than 11,000 supporters who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lelliephant\/status\/1504933553733345286\">called out the \u201cracist\u201d performance<\/a>, including other tribal community leaders \u2014 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HaswoodForKS\/status\/1504884723738419204?s=20&amp;t=5n6g_jgOTxbgCbgMpPpL_Q\">such as Kansas State Rep. Christina Haswood<\/a>, who identifies as Din\u00e9 and implored Disney to \u201cdo better,\u201d adding, \u201cIt\u2019s ignorance at this point.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Kelly Lynne D\u2019Angelo, a writer on TNT\u2019s \u201cMiracle Workers\u201d and a Tongva, slammed the lack of urgency to recognize racism against Native people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c99% percent of the people sharing their outrage about this are Native people. Can\u2019t you see that\u2019s the problem too?\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kellylynnedang\/status\/1504857694229786627?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1504857694229786627%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdeadline.com%2F2022%2F03%2Fdisney-world-native-american-indians-performance-controvery-1234982047%2F\">she wrote<\/a>. \u201cWhy must WE be the ones to speak up of all the blatant racism against us? Of our constant mistreatment? Why must we fight, tooth and nail, for you to understand we are human and alive and thriving too?\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>D\u2019Angelo went on to condemn the \u201csavage\u201d stereotype encouraged by the \u201cscalp \u2019em\u201d chant. \u201cThe thing is: our ways were right and always have been,\u201d she said. \u201cWe know how to make bounty on this earth. How to live EASILY. Our relational practices with each other and the earth are a FUNDAMENTAL CORE to a healthy and harmonious human experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Houska, who was an advisor to Sen. Bernie Sanders during his 2016 campaign, continued her dig in a tweet thread, suggesting that Disney may have green-lit the routine on just one condition. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c@pnghsndns cheerleaders weren\u2019t allowed to wear the fake headdresses as they usually do, but the scalp \u2018em chant was <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zhaabowekwe\/status\/1504729679894306834\">she shared<\/a> with an article <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wdwnt.com\/2022\/03\/indianettes-marching-band-drill-team-not-allowed-to-wear-war-bonnet-during-disney-performance\/\">published Wednesday<\/a> on Disney Parks fan site WDW <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> Today.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years Disney Parks has pledged to operate and develop new attractions with one guiding principle in mind: \u201cInclusion.\u201d To that end, they\u2019ve made several changes to demonstrate their dedication to the cause, such as scrapping the phrase \u201cladies and gentleman, boys and girls\u201d during the \u201cHappily Ever After\u201d fireworks show at Magic Kingdom. <\/p>\n<p>Last year, they also updated their \u201cjaw-dropping\u201d Jungle Cruise ride, first opened in 1955, by removing problematic depictions of religious symbols and references to indigenous societies <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/eL922rDi9Jc?t=151\">as headhunting \u201csavages.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ride Disneyland&#039;s Jungle Cruise with a 1955 skipper\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eL922rDi9Jc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe exciting changes we\u2019re making to one of @Disney\u2019s most popular classic attractions, Jungle Cruise, reflect our commitment to creating unparalleled experiences that reflect, not only the best in storytelling, but also the values and rich diversity of our world,\u201d Disney President Bob Iger <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobertIger\/status\/1353822587445383170?s=20\">tweeted at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Disney\u2019s good-faith inclusion campaign was most recently compromised by their CEO Bob Chapek, who found himself embroiled in Florida\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d bill debate after fans and employees \u2014 many of whom are part of the LGBTQ+ community \u2014 decried the company\u2019s public silence on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek later apologized. \u201cYou needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights and I let you down,\u201d he said. \u201cI am sorry.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
