Andrew Cuomo <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/03\/16\/former-ny-gov-andrew-cuomo-considers-running-against-kathy-hochul-despite-opposition-from-party.html\">is reportedly considering a run<\/a> against Gov. Kathy Hochul, but a devastating audit Tuesday by state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli should nip that crazy notion in the bud.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of providing model \u201cleadership\u201d in the fight against COVID, as Cuomo continues to pretend he did, DiNapoli says New York\u2019s response at nursing homes was among the worst in the nation. <\/p>\n<p>Plus, the comptroller charges Team Cuomo with politicizing the Department of Health \u2014 intentionally misleading the public and suppressing facts in reporting COVID deaths at nursing homes.<\/p>\n<p>DOH \u201cwas not transparent,\u201d the audit states bluntly. It \u201croutinely underreported death counts,\u201d by as much as 100%. From April 2020 to February 2021, it failed to account for 4,100 nursing-home lives lost to the virus, falling \u201cfar short\u201d of its \u201cmoral\u201d responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Strong words. Too bad DiNapoli couldn\u2019t find the courage to stand up to Cuomo when he was in office and his findings might\u2019ve made a difference.<\/p>\n<p>DiNapoli says the department\u2019s failures began before the pandemic. \u201cA persistent lack of funding\u201d forced it to \u201coperate without critical information systems.\u201d Yet he also cites intentional misreporting (i.e., <em>lying<\/em>) that became a serious problem when \u201cthe Executive\u201d \u2014 Cuomo \u2014 \u201ctook control of information.\u201d To this day, many families \u201cstill don\u2019t have answers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the audit\u2019s findings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New York \u201ctrailed other states in surveying nursing homes and developing strategies to stop infections from spreading.\u201d It surveyed just 20% of facilities between March 23 and May 30, 2020, compared to more than 90% in some other states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cInadequate support\u201d at DOH led to delays in setting up infectious-disease-control procedures at health facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>DOH knew one of its key informational systems was not reliable but never corrected the problem, limiting its \u201cability to respond.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the heart of the scandal, of course: Team Cuomo\u2019s order for nursing homes to accept COVID-contagious patients, even though the then-gov himself rightly warned the virus could spread \u201clike fire through dry grass\u201d at such facilities. The delays and lies were meant to hide the resulting deaths.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tom-dinapoli.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"DiNapoli's audit found that the Department of Health \u201croutinely underreported death counts.&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-21595126\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tom-dinapoli.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tom-dinapoli.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/03\/tom-dinapoli.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>DiNapoli\u2019s audit found that the Department of Health \u201croutinely underreported death counts.\u201d<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP Photo\/Seth Wenig<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And lest any doubt a coverup, DiNapoli notes that the department \u201cimposed impediments\u201d on his audit and delayed providing requested data (as it did with other watchdogs). <\/p>\n<p>The new findings echo those of other investigators, such as state Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Letitia James and those in the Assembly. But that only highlights how late DiNapoli is to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At least it\u2019s another blow to any Cuomo comeback. The ex-gov brags that he\u2019s escaped criminal charges for all those allegations of sexual abuse.
