For years, the paper has called for Big Tech to censor what it considers \u201cmisinformation\u201d \u2014 like the Hunter Biden laptop story it helped squelch before the election.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after Donald Trump rode down the golden elevator at Trump Tower to announce his presidential candidacy in 2015, the Times shifted from \u201cAll the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> That\u2019s Fit to Print\u201d to All the News That Fits an Anti-Trump Agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Times <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> columnist Jim Rutenberg <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/08\/08\/business\/balance-fairness-and-a-proudly-provocative-presidential-candidate.html\">announced<\/a> in 2016, \u201cIf you\u2019re a working journalist and you believe that Donald J. Trump is a demagogue,\u201d you \u201chave to throw out the textbook American journalism has been using\u201d and reject \u201cnormal standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bravo to the Gray Lady for Friday\u2019s reversal \u2014 assuming the paper actually lives by its new commitment to \u201ccompeting ideas.\u201d Time will tell. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But even more important is what h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ens next on social media. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/journalism\/2021\/09\/20\/news-consumption-across-social-media-in-2021\/\">Half\u00a0of Americans get<\/a> at least some of their news from Facebook, Twitter and other such platforms, far more than rely on the Times. But the Times smeared it as \u201cunsubstantiated\u201d and quoted former Democratic officials calling it, without evidence, Russian disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Then, last Wednesday, the Times sneakily admitted in the 24th\u00a0paragraph of a news story that the information on Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop\u00a0was authenticated and relevant \u2014 17 months after voters went to the polls, largely unaware of Hunter and his father\u2019s covert multimillion-dollar deals with the Chinese.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where social media come in. Twitter locked the New York Post\u2019s account, and Facebook used algorithms to slow dissemination of the Post coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats know Silicon Valley serves them.\u00a0More than three-quarters of Democrats want tech companies to delete \u201cfalse\u201d information. More than half of Republicans say \u201cNo,\u201d according to Pew Research.<\/p>\n<p>Since Trump\u2019s debut, the Times has demanded more digital censorship. The paper actually claimed, \u201cBlocking misinformation will help protect the company\u2019s brand and credibility.\u201d We see now where that got it.<\/p>\n<p>In <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/10\/opinion\/truth-and-lies-in-the-age-of-trump.html\">another editorial<\/a> that year,\u00a0the Times board revealed its disdain for the public, suggesting ordinary folks are\u00a0lost without \u201ca Walter Cronkite to guide them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tellingly, in 2018, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/19\/opinion\/facebook-twitter-journalism-misinformation.html\">the board added<\/a> that\u00a0digital censorship \u201ccan change the course of elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to 2021, after Biden defeats Trump.
