John Wick\u2019s work won\u2019t be done by the end of the fourth movie.<\/p>\n

During a Lionsgate earnings call today, company CEO John Feltheimer<\/strong> revealed that not only is a fifth\u00a0Wick<\/em> movie in the works, but that the studio plans to film that sequel back to back with the upcoming fourth film.\u00a0Yeah, I\u2019m thinking he\u2019s back (to back).

Deadline reports that franchise star\u00a0Keanu Reeves<\/strong>, who previously filmed The Matrix<\/em> sequels back-to-back in the early 2000s, is preparing to do it again \u2013 this time, with John Wick 4<\/em> and John Wick 5<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

According to Feltheimer: \u201cWe\u2019re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our\u00a0John Wick<\/em>\u00a0action franchise, with\u00a0John Wick 4<\/em>\u00a0slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022. We hope to shoot both\u00a0John Wick 4<\/em>\u00a0&\u00a05\u00a0<\/em>back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is our first official confirmation that the studio and the creatives behind the movie are extending the franchise beyond the fourth film. At one point, the third movie was seemingly going to be the final entry in the saga. Director Chad Stahelski<\/strong> said that as they were finishing John Wick: Chapter 3 \u2013 Parabellum<\/em>, he and Reeves looked at each other and said, \u2018Okay, time to move on. Let\u2019s go do a romantic comedy or something. We\u2019re good.’\u201d But they soon changed their minds, and because the idea they submitted for the fourth movie was \u201creally big,\u201d in April of this year Stahelski said they were \u201ctalking about doing a little bit more than a [John Wick 4<\/em>], or something like that, and trying to develop that. We\u2019ll see how that goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The John Wick<\/em> franchise is already set to expand beyond the fourth movie with Ballerina<\/em>, the first spin-off movie set in that universe. Live Free or Die Hard<\/em> director Len Wiseman<\/strong> is directing that one, which \u201cfocuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.\u201d Plus, there\u2019s the long-gestating TV series<\/a> The Continental<\/em>, set at the movie\u2019s chain of sleek assassin-only hotels. That show has been in the works for years, and is aiming to be released on Starz in the wake of John Wick 4<\/em>.<\/p>\n

When we last saw Reeves\u2019 John Wick at the end of the third film, he had taken a nasty fall off the top of a building and was preparing to be nursed back to health by Laurence Fishburne\u2019s Bowery King.<\/p>\n
