class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>NASA is always on the lookout for new planets.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists at the US space agency and other institutions across the globe hope to find habitable exoplanets that host life or could support us in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Nasa uses its Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) to make a lot of its discoveries.<\/p>\n<p>It finds exoplanets, meaning planets outside our Solar System, by measuring if light is dimmed when a suspected planet passes across a star.<\/p>\n<p>This can be a long and tedious process as several transits of a planet may be needed in order to confirm its existence.<\/p>\n<p>The US space agency has found quite a few planets this way and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/amazing-exoplanet-discoveries\">Space.com<\/a>\u00a0highlighted ten of the most interesting examples.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Brown_dwarf_planet\"><\/span>Brown dwarf planet<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Brown dwarfs are celestial objects that aren\u2019t technically stars or planets.<\/p>\n<p>This is why it was so unusual when Nasa\u2019s Hubble Space Telescope spotted a planet orbiting a brown dwarf called CFHTWIR-Oph 98.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image b.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unusual because it orbits two stars.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s like Earth orbiting two suns.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Proxima_Centauri_C\"><\/span>Proxima Centauri C<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You may have heard of this exoplanet before.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s popular because it orbits a star called Proxima Centauri, which is the closest star to our Sun.<\/p>\n<p>It was spotted in 2016 and is 4.25-light-years away.<\/p>\n<p>Proxima Centauri C is said to be a rocky exoplanet but it\u2019s not thought to be habitable.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Boiling_super-Earth\"><\/span>Boiling super-Earth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A super-Earth is a rocky planet several times the mass of our own world.<\/p>\n<p>Super-Earth HD 108236 b is over three times the mass of our planet.<\/p>\n<p>A year on the planet is technically 3.8 days because it orbits its star so quickly.<\/p>\n<p>We wouldn\u2019t be able to survive on this \u2018super-Earth\u2019 because the surface temperature is estimated at 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit (825 degrees Celsius).<\/p>\n<figure
