Well I was wrong, there are now millions of native assets issued and DApps are now in the hundreds. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SlowAndSteady?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SlowAndSteady<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mK4So6NHa1\">https:\/\/t.co\/mK4So6NHa1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IOHK_Charles\/status\/1506633303838887936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 23, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nHowever he may have misremembered his own tweet, as he had <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IOHK_Charles\/status\/1287481374224420864\">predicted<\/a> back in July 2020 that by 2021, there would be \u201chundreds of assets and thousands of DApps\u201d on Cardano (ADA). <\/p>\n<p>While the number of assets appears to have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtschofield\/status\/1506575854217928706\">exceeded<\/a> his predictions by 2022 thanks to new nonfungible token (NFT) minting protocols, the number of decentralized apps running on the network isn&#8217;t so impressive.<\/p>\n<p>The decentralized finance analytics platform <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/chain\/Cardano\">DeFiLlama<\/a> tracks just seven DApps running on Cardano and a total of $315.72M in total value locked (TVL), excluding staked governance tokens. Two of those DApps have $0 TVL outside of governance tokens. <\/p>\n<p>Hoskinson <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IOHK_Charles\/status\/1502682831574630408?s=20&amp;t=OjWilzpa2fE1dsSWLltl8w\">believes<\/a> that developers are waiting for the deployment of the Vasil hardfork upgrade on Cardano scheduled for this June to launch their projects<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-03\/f275300f-47da-41bf-a31a-5f9dbd2b8250.PNG\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\">Cardano DApps tracked by DeFiLlama.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to the leading Cardano ecosystem tracker <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cardanocube.io\/cardano-ecosystem-interactive-map\">Cardano Cube<\/a>, there are 579 DApps in various stages of development.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What most also don&#8217;t understand is that many Cardano DApps are waiting for the Vasil hardfork in June to launch to benefit from pipelining. The Jan. 21 launch of the SundaeSwap decentralized exchange (DEX) helped spark a big increase in total value locked (TVL). Leading up to the launch, Cardano TVL shot up more than 24 times from $3 million to $87.7 in a single day from Jan. 20 to 21 according to DeFiLlama.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-03\/15f4ab5f-bbb8-48f6-81c4-6dd1942625e0.PNG\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\">Cardano TVL has been on a steady climb throughout 2022 &#8211; DeFiLlama<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Including the value of staked tokens, the ecosystem\u2019s TVL now sits at an all-time high of $315.7 million with the Minswap DEX leading all other dApps with $195.2 million. That makes Cardano the 25th-largest blockchain network by TVL. If counting the value of staked governance tokens, Cardano&#8217;s TVL is about $421.5 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Grayscale launches smart contract fund for Ethereum competitors<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the growth of Cardano this year, the network\u2019s TVL still pales in comparison to that of its Layer-1 competitors in DeFi, such as Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL).
