It seems likely, especially after he explained to me how he landed his coveted gig as the bandleader on \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During our \u201cRenaissance Man\u201d interview, he said he had performed on Comedy Central\u2019s \u201cThe Colbert Report\u201d back in 2014 and that one thing was <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a good chemistry,\u201d he told me. \u201cAnd then we did a performance in the performance. We just took the whole audience outside and we marched the whole audience and me and Stephen were dancing. And it was just this whole celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/10\/09\/madonna-performs-set-at-nyc-cabaret-before-taking-to-streets\/\">Colbert kept inviting Batiste back<\/a>, and when Colbert landed Letterman\u2019s spot, people in Batiste\u2019s world said, \u201cCall him up. Write and tell him that you want to do this new show with him. And I was like, \u2018Man, I don\u2019t know,&#8217;\u201d said Batiste, who was at a crossroads in his career. With a No. 1 record on the Billboard charts and numerous deals on the table, he made a bold decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going to call him and just give him the whole spiel.\u201d But he never had to make that call. Instead, Colbert picked up the phone that very day and dialed his number. The co<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n said everyone had been telling him that he should hire Jon Batiste and he agreed. The rest is late-night history.<\/p>\n<p>        <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Podcast\" width=\"100%\" height=\"188px\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.acast.com\/5ac23cd2-7cf4-542c-a68e-d6559d0d7d38\/623bdbc2a49bdd0012fb2be7?accentColor=2a2a2a&amp;bgColor=f6f6f6&amp;font-family=proxima%20nova&amp;logo=false&amp;secondaryColor=cc3333\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden;\"><br \/>\n        <\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that kind of clarified for me, that was my path \u2026 A record deal can wait, going on the road again can wait. I\u2019ll get back to it. This is what I\u2019m supposed to be doing right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The universe has had a funny way of guiding his career. Batiste teamed up with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails to make the music for the charming, life-affirming Pixar movie \u201cSoul\u201d about a jazz musician. Then, the pandemic hit. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the time it came out, we were bummed out because it wasn\u2019t going to be in theaters. We had all these things going on.\u201d But \u201cSoul\u201d was thought-provoking and smile-inducing: exactly what audiences craved during lockdown. He won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best original score, which he chalks up to God because of how the timing worked out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just it was meant to be. And we just put our heart and soul into it, literally, no pun intended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The movie also helped plant the seed of jazz appreciation in a whole new generation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I\u2019m just like, \u2018Man, this is this is exactly what I\u2019ve been dreaming of.\u2019 I wanted to<br \/>share my love of music with so many people. And this is another vehicle to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in the greater New Orleans area, Batiste didn\u2019t need to learn about music from <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>. He was literally born into a musical dynasty. And, I assume, very loud family gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad really started as my first musical mentor while playing records for me. He\u2019s a bass player. If Beethoven was alive today, he would make music using jazz and hip-hop and video <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> music. He would use all of the influences, and I feel that way about what I do,\u201d said Batiste.<\/p>\n<p>Batiste has the body of work to back that up. In addition to performing with his band Stay Human, he\u2019s played with musicians across all the genres \u2014 Stevie Wonder, Ed Sheeran, Willie Nelson, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/03\/06\/madonna-spotted-in-rare-unfiltered-pics-with-son-rocco-ritchie\">Madonna<\/a> and Lenny Kravitz, to name a few. He\u2019d still love to collaborate on a movie score with Radiohead. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be out of this world,\u201d said Batiste, who also knows how to cut a natty figure. He favors Pyer Moss, in case you\u2019re all wondering.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly, what is on his playlist? Everything, apparently, but there are artists in regular rotation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always come back to Marvin [Gaye]. I always come back to Miles Davis. I always come back to Nina Simone. I listen a lot to Kendrick [Lamar]. I always come back to a lot of jazz records that I grew up with in New Orleans, hip-hop records that I grew up with.\u201d He\u2019s a fan of Jay Electronica, Kanye West and Brazilian folk music.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>I know Batiste is a performer, but I also consider him a teacher. A bridge between genres and eras. And I wanted to know: Which classical composers would he like to see in a Verzuz battle? He didn\u2019t even hesitate to say Duke Ellington, who is the embodiment of American classical music. And Bach, who was prolific.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put them together because they represent two different sides of the coin. And I love the idea of putting people together who are of the same level of greatness but coming from different perspectives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>This is what I would call really old school. And, suddenly, I\u2019m intrigued. Mostly about the trash talk that would go on. But that\u2019s Jon Batiste: always making your mind twist and expand.<\/p>\n<p><em>Detroit native\u00a0Jalen Rose\u00a0is a member of the University of Michigan\u2019s iconoclastic Fab Five, who shook up the college hoops world in the early \u201990s. He played 13 seasons in the NBA, before transitioning into a media personality. Rose is currently an analyst for \u201cNBA Countdown\u201d and \u201cGet Up,\u201d and co-host of \u201cJalen &amp; Jacoby.\u201d He executive produced \u201cThe Fab Five\u201d for ESPN\u2019s \u201c30 for 30\u201d series, is the author of the best-selling book, \u201cGot To Give the People What They Want,\u201d a fashion tastemaker, and co-founded the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, a public charter school in his hometown.<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
