I say everything I do not out of malice or ill will, but out of a profound love I have for the city I call home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tom Allon, a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> organization publisher and father to Adams\u2019 deputy press officer, voted against the contract. Alan Ong, a former Community Education Council president, abstained. Lopez\/NYPOST<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThat may signal some problems for Adams,\u201d said Brooklyn College and CUNY Grad Center education professor David Bloomfield. The mayor\u2019s predecessors insisted panel members fall in line \u2014 even removing those who disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might also mean that he\u2019s going to allow his PEP members to act as a check and balance on the chancellor,\u201d Bloomfield said. \u201cBut I suspect that yesterday it just went wrong.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The vote came a day after the Adams administration had to remove an appointee, Staten Island pastor Kathlyn Barrett-Layne, after reports revealed her history of anti-gay views and writings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody pays attention to the PEP, including apparently Adams,\u201d said Bloomfield. \u201cSo this was an embarrassment, and likely because they don\u2019t have their act together yet.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Critics of the contract raised questions about how the money could be spent and what temporary staffers would be hired, calling for more answers further in advance of meetings. Allon didn\u2019t speak publicly on his \u201cno\u201d vote and declined to comment for The Post.<\/p>\n<p>DOE chief financial officer Lindsey Oates responded that the contract would help support staffing for temporary initiatives like the Situation Room that oversees COVID-19 cases in schools, or other school and principal needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf this contract were delayed, we would have a lapse in service, and we\u2019re really trying to prevent a lapse in service to our schools,\u201d Oates said.<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan Borough President Appointee Kaliris Salas-Ramirez asked for an update on those short-term programs \u201cso that we can further understand the need for this particular contract,\u201d while Sheppard suggested the potential lapse in service puts members in a difficult spot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have a problem with that,\u201d he said. \u201cBecause if these contracts take time to negotiate, then we should have enough time to review those contracts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The only other time the PEP is believed to have voted against a mayor came last year against Bill de Blasio, when the panel voted down a contract to administer the Gifted and Talented admissions exam.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
