Source: SI<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The official letter states that \u201cthe Government of Vanuatu welcomes the Satoshi Island project and its community to our country,\u201d while highlighting that \u201cVanuatu is looking for new ways to attract investment and people to our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Covid-19 pandemic \u201cseverely affected the tourism sector,\u201d a mainstay of the Vanuatu economy, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/destinationcenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WTTC-Economic-Impact-Report-2020_vanuatu_A4-24pp-1.pdf\">contributing<\/a> 34.7% to total GDP in 2019. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/data.worldbank.org\/indicator\/ST.INT.ARVL?locations=VU\">According<\/a> to World Bank data, visitor numbers to the paradise archipelago 2,000 km Brisbane dropped from circa 300,000 to 80,000 in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>The team at Satoshi Island had previously told Cointelegraph that the \u201clack [in] tourism\u201d was one of the pain points they wished to alleviate with their project.
