\n Lionsgate is expanding two of its key franchises, with a fifth \u201cJohn Wick\u201d movie and \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d reboot.<\/p>\n

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed the moves on Thursday afternoon during the company\u2019s conference call with Wall Street analysts following the studio\u2019s release of quarterly earnings, which came in above estimates.<\/p>\n

Lionsgate revealed in July that \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d star Jennifer Grey was collaborating with the studio on an untitled dance movie in which she will star and executive produce. But it refused to say if the project was tied to the 1987 hit \u201cDirty Dancing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feltheimer said during Thursday\u2019s call that it was indeed a \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd to reveal one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood, we\u2019re pleased to confirm that Jennifer Grey will both executive produce and star in a new \u2018Dirty Dancing\u2019 movie for Lionsgate from \u2018Warm Bodies\u2019 director Jonathan Levine,\u201d he said. \u201cIt will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise\u2019s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the Company\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lionsgate had announced last year that it had scheduled \u201cJohn Wick 4\u201d for May 21, 2021, following a strong opening for \u201cJohn Wick: Chapter 3 \u2013 Parabellum.\u201d Feltheimer said the studio has moved \u201cJohn Wick 4\u201d back a year and is planning to shoot it back to back with a fifth installment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re also busy preparing script<\/a>s for the next two installments of our \u2018John Wick\u2019 action franchise, with \u2018John Wick 4\u2019 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022,\u201d he said. \u201cWe hope to shoot both \u2018John Wick 4\u2019 and \u20185\u2019 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feltheimer also said Lionsgate has been moving to get back into production amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the appetite for fresh content at an all-time high and options for consumers dwindling due to the global shutdown, we made it a strategic priority to be one of the first major studios back into production,\u201d he said. \u201cOver the past five months, we\u2019ve put together a thoughtful strategy to restart production with protocols to best ensure the safety of cast and crew.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recently began production on the thriller\/horror film \u2018The Devil\u2019s Light\u2019 in Eastern Europe, and we\u2019re gearing up physical production to begin shooting several other films over the next two months, including \u2018The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent\u2019 starring Nic Cage,\u201d he said. \u201cThese efforts put us in a strong position to capitalize on a market short on supply.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
