\n Democratic nominee Joe Biden on Thursday attempted to clarify comments he made earlier in the day suggesting that the African American population is not as \u201cdiverse\u201d as the Latino community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn no way did I mean to suggest the African American community is a monolith\u2014not by identity, not on issues, not at all,\u201d Biden tweeted Thursday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout my career I\u2019ve witnessed the diversity of thought, background, and sentiment within the African American community,\u201d he went on. \u201cIt\u2019s this diversity that makes our workplaces, communities, and country a better place.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former veep made the head-scratching \u201cdiversity\u201d remark during a roundtable interview with black and Hispanic reporters released Thursday.<\/p>\n

Biden was responding to a question asking if he would \u201cre-engage\u201d with Cuba\u2019s Communist government, to which he responded, \u201cyes,\u201d before comparing beliefs of blacks and Latinos.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the way, what you all know, but most people don\u2019t know, unlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things,\u201d Biden went on in the interview.<\/p>\n

Biden on Twitter<\/a> later pledged commitment to African Americans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will always listen, I will never stop fighting for the African American community and I will never stop fighting for a more equitable future,\u201d he added.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
