Every Saturday we\u2019ll be spotlighting a different episode of television from that week that we thought was exceptional and a must-see. Check back to see if your favorite show got the nod \u2014 or to learn about a new one! Spoilers ahead.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re not yet sure how you feel about NBC\u2019s new true-crime limited <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> <em>The Thing About Pam<\/em>, Episode 3 \u201cShe\u2019s a Star Witness,\u201d which aired on March 22, will get you hooked. Following the true story of how Pam Hupp (Ren\u00e9e Zellweger) allegedly murdered her friend Betsy Faria (Katy Mixon), and framed Betsy\u2019s husband Russ (an effectively pitiable Glenn Fleshler) for it, this episode depicts Russ\u2019s trial and the absolute insanity that went down at that courthouse.<\/p>\n<p>For a show about a murder, <em>The Thing About Pam<\/em> can be comical. The episode opens with a dream Pam is having where she imagines herself as the star of the trial, complete with flashing lights around her name, and set to Enya\u2019s \u201cOrinoco Flow (Sail Away).\u201d Pam is clearly exalting in the attention and admiration she\u2019ll receive for her testimony against Russ; adding a moment where Pam hums to \u201cOrinoco Flow\u201d in her sleep is the cherry on top. The more comedic bits only make the truly chilling details of the tale stand out more.<\/p>\n<p>What elevates the series above farce is its investment in the characters hurt the most by Pam\u2019s actions. It\u2019s impossible not to feel bad for Russ, a man still grieving his wife\u2019s death, being railroaded by law enforcement, and even judged for acting emotionally on the 911 call he made when he found Betsy\u2019s body. His daughter Mariah (a sympathetic Gideon Adlon) is similarly bullied by D.A. Leah Askey (a perky, yet sinister Judy Greer) into testifying against him. She meekly looks around for someone to save her from this situation, but all she finds is Pam encouraging her to tell the jury about how Russ and Betsy used to fight. Russ\u2019s lawyer Joel Schwartz (Josh Duhamel) is easy to root for as he fights tooth and nail for Russ. The show effectively paints the dichotomy of having Joel, a scoundrel defense attorney who\u2019s used to having horribly guilty people as clients, be the hero here. The show gives each of these characters just as much screen time as it does Pam, setting it apart from the numerous other series about con-artists out right now that focus inordinately on the perpetrators of the crime.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the episode successfully narrates how the politics of a small town make what should be a trial in favor of Russ\u2013Joel has mountains of evidence to prove Russ\u2019s innocence, including a rock-solid alibi, and implicate Pam as the killer\u2013into a kangaroo court. \u201cSee the lady at the claw machine?\u201d Leah asks Pam. \u201cThat\u2019s our judge. Our kids are on the same softball team.\u201d Watching Judge Mannemeyer (Heather Magee) rubber-stamp whatever Leah asks for is jaw dropping, and Joel is practically pulling his hair out as the judge prohibits anything that would imply Pam is a suspect. The show clearly says: our justice system is horrifically flawed, and if you think this can\u2019t h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en to you, think again.<\/p>\n<p>The escalating antics of the judge and Leah are enough to keep viewers glued to the screen, but the episode ends with one final punch. For the entire episode Pam charms her neighbor Minnie (Patricia French) into telling her what\u2019s going on in court while she\u2019s stuck in the room with the other witnesses (not that she doesn\u2019t take full advantage of this). But once the trial is over, Pam once again shows her true cruelty by leaving a box with a murdered squirrel\u2013Minnie has a squirrel feeder in her front yard, which drives Pam crazy\u2013on Minnie\u2019s front doorstep. Pam watches through the slats in her window with a self satisfied smile on her face as Minnie finds the box in horror. We\u2019ve only just scratched the surface of what this sociopath is capable of.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1037937\" style=\"width: 2038px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1037937\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1037937\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/the-thing-about-pam-episode-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2028\" height=\"1353\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/the-thing-about-pam-episode-3-1.jpg 2028w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/the-thing-about-pam-episode-3-1-433x289.jpg 433w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/the-thing-about-pam-episode-3-1-854x570.jpg 854w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/the-thing-about-pam-episode-3-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/the-thing-about-pam-episode-3-1-234x155.jpg 234w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/the-thing-about-pam-episode-3-1-570x380.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2028px) 100vw, 2028px\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-1037937\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Skip Bolen\/NBC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_observations_we_thought_made_this_episode_stand_out\"><\/span><strong>Other observations we thought made this episode stand out:<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Joel\u2019s second chair Nate Swanson (Ben Chase) gets to deadpan some of the funniest one-liners this episode. \u201cDid she have that limp before?\u201d he asks, as Pam steps down from the stand. \u201cNo, no she did not,\u201d replies Joel. When the court recesses before closing arguments, Joel, actually feeling good about the case for a moment, looks at Leah and says, \u201cShe\u2019s realizing she blew it.\u201d To which Nate gets to respond something that made me laugh out loud\u2013\u201cI don\u2019t really think she has it in her character.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The show gets meta as NBC Dateline producer Cathy Singer (Alice Barrett Mitchell) arrives on the scene. Throughout the trial, the camera will occasionally pan to her. Joel may not be convincing the judge or jury, but he is convincing her. And as much as Pam loves the spotlight, she\u2019s freaked out by Cathy\u2019s presence as well: this may be someone she can\u2019t swindle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>The Thing About Pam<\/em>, Tuesdays, 10\/9c, NBC<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
